If so…that is a good thing.
Yes. I am looking forward to doing the warlock mount quest at 60 again. Was a fun experience.
Laughs in Alliance Onyxia Attunement
Yeah I’m looking forward to that quest too line too. And I’m looking forward to running ST in it’s pre-nerf form, and Scholo for that matter. Actually, I’m looking forward to all of the pre-nerf Vanilla dungeons.
“Is thing from Vanilla going to be in Classic?”
How is this a question that needs an answer…???
what are the attunements? Haven’t played vanilla
Attunments were a thing they had in BC.
I think there was one before that but you only needed it to do one boss so I dont think it realy mattered.
You hadd to do attinements /quests prior to entering raids such a molten core.
Vanilla had two raids at the start: Molten Core and Onyxia. Molten Core did not require an attunement to get in, you just needed to make your way through Blackrock Depths as the instance portal to MC was deep within that dungeon.
MC did have a sort of soft attunement for Ragnaros in that you had to have a certain reputation level with the Hydraxian Waterlords to get aqual essences. These essences were needed to douse the runes of Ragnaros within MC to summon Majordomo Executus, who in turn summoned Rag.
Blizzard later added an attunement quest for MC where you had to get a piece of rock from next to the MC portal in Blaclrock Depths. once you finish that Quest, there was a small keyhole style window you could jump through outside of the Blackrock Depths instance that would instantly transport you to MC. So it was basically a time-saver.
For Onyxia, you had to go through a long Quest chain to get a necklace that allowed you to enter her instance zone. This quest, which was different for the Horde and Alliance, was actually a lot of fun but was later removed when they took the attuning requirement away.
I hope this helps. And hopefully nobody spoils the quests for you so you get to experience them for the first time.
Well said!
I recall the ‘Attunement to the core’ quest in vanilla.
I also had a feeling there was an attunement for BWL???
yes, yes they will
Those are not attunements, per se, they just provided shortcuts into the instance. The Molten Core quest kept you from having to form a raid and make your way down through Blackrock Depths. The Blackwing Lair Quest kept you from having to make your way through Upper Blackrock Spire.
Even if you did not do either quest, you could still make a raid and run both dungeons until you got to the respective raid instance portals. Nothing would keep you from zoning in at that point.
The only real raid attunement was Onyxia where you were unable to enter the instance without completing the quest chain and obtaining the neck. The other raids just had quests that you could complete which made it easier to enter the instance but not required. And Naxx was just a pay to enter (or free if Exalted). Attunements were really a TBC thing which if they were to do a Classic TBC, they would obviously keep them in.
This seems like a very straightforward and obvious thing, I don’t see why anyone would think otherwise.
Inaccurate. The only times where this was the case was Onyxia and Naxxramas. Molten Core and BWL attunements made it so you could access another entrance to the raid without needing to clear through a dungeon.
Before 1.3 there was no MC attunement so every raid wipe resulted in your entire guild charging through BRD in order to enter Molten Core.
For BWL this was UBRS after Rend Blackhand where the hallway would fork to the left toward BWL and right toward The Beast and Drakkisath.

Attunements were really a TBC thing which if they were to do a Classic TBC, they would obviously keep them in.
Depends. Attunements in TBC were removed fairly early on for tier 5 which I believe was in the 2.1 patch which was only like four months off of release.
If they do TBC they’ll likely do what they’re doing now where the game in all forms is 1.12 with things retroactively removed. For TBC they would likely do it on 2.4.3 which 2.4 removed the tier 6 attunements. We will know for absolute certain seeing how they handle the MC one since that shouldn’t be in the game until Dire Maul technically. The only way I could see them retroactively adding attunements for TBC back in would be if there was a large enough sperg fit from the community.
With how they’re presently progressing I would expect the attunements to not exist in a TBC server strictly because Blizzard seems really hellbent on giving you some of the experience, but not all of it. Also I guarantee you a lot of people on a TBC server would lose their collective minds when they’re unable to enter tier 5 because they can’t figure out how to summon Nightbane, or aren’t capable of downing Gruul.
There’s a big reason why if you talk to a lot of retail players presently who badmouth TBC it always comes back to some sob story about attunements and being stuck in tier 4 the entire expansion and TBC is kind of at the point where players were much more optimal in their gameplay compared to MC and BWL. Even on most TBC servers top guilds get stomped in tier 5 for a bit just because you can’t trounce those fights and waltz all over them because you know what keybinding is. You do require some level of player competence at that point whereas MC and BWL just keybinding makes you 400% better than the skill it was designed around.
Attunements were fun. Remember the spamming of the LFG channel - LFM - jailbreak,
The attunements for were only removed from raids after they were no longer current and in order to get attuned for BT you had to kill the first boss in Hyjal which in order to get attuned for that you had to kill both end bosses in SSC and TK and in order to get attuned for those raids you had to do long quest chains. It is rather alt unfriendly in addition to being super unfriendly for any new person to the game or to someone that had to take an extended break if they were to keep all the attunements in because when your raid has BT/Hyjal on farm who wants to go back and do a bunch of heroics for a new recruit or alt to unlock SSC/TK so you can THEN unlock BT/Hyjal for that person. It would make perfect sense even if they were to go the classic route and base everything off of a 2.4.3 patch to keep the original attunements in until the same point in the content release cycle that they were removed back in TBC.
The attuements were fun when you were first progressing through the games content but when every tier of raid requires you to complete the previous tiers raid to get attuned, once you go through multiple tiers (especially when catch up gear is added via badge vendors or new questing max level questing areas) it’s unrealistic to think people would enjoy (and thus require) going through all of the old content again just so someone can reroll to a new character or recruit a new player.
Attunements weren’t hard, just time consuming.
Getting people to stay in a group for over an hour in some cases, is the hardest part of these attunements.
I had remembered this oddity back in the day when I got invited to a MC group and I was confused I couldn’t port into the raid instance and died in the lava since I wasn’t attuned. This was the first time I did a BRD lava jump run to get to the portal entrance and had to get rezzed by a healer any time I died to avoid having to go through BRD again.
The only attunement that is time consuming to any serious degree is Onyixia Attunement.
Alliance have it easy and can get it done in a few hours with a few trips to BRD/Winterspring/UBRS. Also a couple elite quests out in Burning Steppes.
Horde have to do 5 man LBRS/Multiple UBRS runs/Trips around the world killing Dragons/3 trips to desolace to find Rexxar.
MC - BRD if “lava runs” are a thing on classic, this can be done in minutes. If you want to call it an “attunement,” you cannot fight Majordomo/Ragnaros until your reputation is high enough with the Hydraxian Warlords for a quintessence, which is used to douse the 8 runes in Molten Core to summon Majordomo.
BWL - Kill a mob outside of BRS then clear UBRS one time. I think Horde have to stop at Kargath first.
AQ - no attunements
Naxxramas - Requires Honored with Argent Dawn (Which any raider will easily be by this phase). Pay a fee depending on your rep. It’s free at exalted.
tl;dr only Onyxia attunement was a pain.
