Are all Blizzard U.S. operations shutting down?

Are we all Europeans now?

Contracting Entity Change Notice - Legal – Blizzard Entertainment

NORTH AMERICA
CONTRACTING ENTITY CHANGE NOTICE
As part of the change in our distribution, the Blizzard games you play and services you use, including Battle.net, (“Platform”) will be provided by Activision Blizzard UK Limited after 31 December 2021. Therefore, the End User Licence Agreement (EULA) and the Terms of Sale with Blizzard Entertainment SAS will terminate. Your account, games’ level, achievements, rankings and history, as well as digital content and services will still be available to you unchanged. Going forward, your relationship will be with Activision Blizzard UK Limited from 1 January 2022 and your new EULA and Terms of Sale will remain the same.

If you do not wish to accept this change, you may cancel your service by visiting https://eu.battle.net/support before 31 December 2021.

HA! That doesn’t concern us 'Mericans! That affects EU players since Blizzard EU headquarter is in UK. So why is this happening? Because of…you know…brexit. See that EU battle.net? Well, there you have it.

Well with the outcome of the legal battle maybe so

This was announced and discussed 2 months ago. It applies to the EU only. It does not apply to the Americas or Asia. Tech MVP Bluspacecow usually does a deep dive on any legal changes related to Blizz or ATVI. They commented on it on reddit 2 months ago, and probably on the forums too if it came up. I believe the closed offices are the ones in France.

This is only for EU players.

Previously their licenses were provided by an Activision Blizzard Subsidiary , Blizzard SAS. This office was closed in 2020. So they’re moving who they get licenses from to an existing one in the UK. Nothing in the EULA changes including protections afforded from consumer protection laws.

Hear about the Mexican who built a wall around his house and trump paid for it.

Yeah…no. I’m going to assume that since it directs you to the EU site, it’s for EU customers.

h-h-how DARE this AMERICAN company not put AMERICA first. I’m personally appalled and horrified.

Nothing is changing for us. Not even EU players.

Yep. It was a pop up on the EU launcher telling them about the changes. It was discussed in the EU forums at the time.

This just has to do with switching the contracting agreement for the EULA from the France office to the new UK headquarters for the EU. And by contracting, it means the folks who control the EULA you agree to. They are not the same for Americas VS EU.

Clearly this is a result of CCP influence on our great country.

Well this may be true. But the notice is posted on blizzard.com/en-us. And it specifically says North America.

It also says “the Blizzard games you play and services you use, including Battle.net, (“Platform”) will be provided by Activision Blizzard UK Limited after 31 December 2021.”

Maybe they are saying it badly, but it sounds like while we won’t notice any changes, all Blizzard services and games will come from the UK.

They have the notice location incorrect or it is an auto header for the US website or something. The Americas is not changing that I know of.

If you look at the Americas EULA it goes into just who you have a contract with, and notes that anything outside the US, Canada, Mexico has a different contracting entity.

Your use of the Platform is licensed, not sold, to you, and you hereby acknowledge that no title or ownership with respect to the Platform or the Games is being transferred or assigned and this Agreement should not be construed as a sale of any rights. All access to and use of the Platform and the Games is subject to this Agreement, the applicable software documentation, and our Privacy Policy (accessible at https://www.blizzard.com/en-us/legal/) (collectively, the “Complete Terms”). The Complete Terms are hereby incorporated into this Agreement by reference (with this Agreement controlling any conflicting terms) and represent the complete agreement between you and us relating to use of the Platform, the Games, and related services and products, superseding any prior agreements between you and us, whether written or oral.

Except as otherwise provided below, if you reside in the United States, Canada, or Mexico, use of the Platform is licensed to you by Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., a Delaware corporation, 1 Blizzard Way, Irvine, CA 92618, and if you are not a resident of the United States, Canada, or Mexico, use of the Platform is licensed to you by Activision Blizzard International B.V., Stroombaan 16, 1181 VX Amstelveen, the Netherlands (Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., and Activision Blizzard International B.V. are referred to herein as “Blizzard”, “we,” or “us”).

EDIT - if someone is actually a lawyer and wants to chime in, I am happy to learn more. I only know the basics on this and that they are separate and due to closing the office in France they had to change the EU contracting.
