Its the same thing that venari rep was before it went account wide. It’s an almost required grind that you have to do on each character you want to play that’s just tedious and irritating.

it gets old. It wasn’t bad at the start of 9.1 but running around in a circle for hours on end isn’t engaging gameplay. It’s like the prepatch event before SL dropped. At first it was cool killing the rares as they spawned… as the event dragged on fewer and few people did it with people openly mocking it towards the end. You are going to see the same thing here in coming weeks.
The easiest solution is as soon as a new tier is unlocked on one toon they should be open on ALL your acct toons.

It’s just a worse version of benthic gear.
But at least with benthic gear it was just a quick, 10-minute quest chain to unlock it and then you were done… the upgrades weren’t gated behind “reputation” or “tiers”.
The higher level upgrades simply cost more currency, that’s all 
I think it would be a gesture of good will from the WoW devs if they made Tier 6 reputation account-wide for the purpose of alt catchup/gear upgrades.
It’s simply unrealistic and impractical to regrind to Tier 6 on multiple alts, and way too time-consuming.
If the toon you’re playing is trying to push end game content (raid, mythic+, higher end pvp), then you’re going to get access to better gear far sooner than the higher upgrade levels. I see the archivist gear as something for alts you don’t “push” with to passively work on during the course of the patch.
If you’re grinding research to upgrade gear past iLvl 220 on an alt, you’ll probably get the rep anyway. Every turn-in gets you rep.
The upgrades seem to be account-wide. I bought the one where you can see which mobs are carrying cataloged research on my main and my alt has the ability.
For what purpose though?
You are primarily interested in the sockets and conduits I suppose?
I do not think they are so important that you should be concerned with doing this rep actively on alts.
I am not even actively doing it on my MAIN.
Rushing to get to max rank is pointless right now. I still have a vast majority of conduits at 226 so I would be waiting until I get all the conduit drops first before I start upgrading other ones.
And as for sockets, their value has dropped significantly for me in season 2.
Between domination sockets occupying slots, and now having to craft new legendary slots, I am unsure what I would even do with sockets other than rings.
Ya, I think that is exactly what its meant to be. A common complaint was that there was no progression gearing to be done outside of group content in 9.0, so this system has addressed that.
Maybe its too slow though. I wouldn’t mind seeing a rep token style thing like all the way back in MoP.

Yeah. I thought those were a great idea, and I’m disappointed they haven’t come back.
I’m surprised they were only used for that one specific time in that one expansion too. Quite odd.
