Archaeology, the abandoned profession that it is, should be account-wide

Made a new thread instead of necro’ing because this topic has been a request for almost a decade now. This change is where common sense meets quality of life meets making a player’s time not feel wasted.

  1. Literally every dug up item that isn’t vendor trash is BoA, BoE, or an account-wide Pet/Mount

  2. All archaeology keystones are BoE/BoA

  3. It is without question the most tedious and grinding secondary profession out there (at least fishing can be done with netflix/youtube on)

  4. There is absolutely no purpose to doing it more than once per account

  5. The fact that it is so grindy (despite having some fun value) and not account-bound likely contributed heavily to its slow decline in engagement

  6. This change could be used as a field test to see how account-wide secondary professions in general could fare (Still limited to 2, but if one character has max mining, the rest will too from the get-go)

By all accounts this profession is 90% of the way there, but that last crucial 10% is missing. For people who’ve completed archaeology on more than one character, (why?) I’m sorry for your lost time. Simply combine all stored fragments/keystones and any excess appears in the mail, to be looted once more room is made. All completed artifacts combine also.

Please, and ty

I take exception or applaud the fact that we look like twins.

i dont think it should be account bound but have the rare items have a higher research chance

I’d say both would be nice.

As someone who spent literal years forever farming frags for zin’rohk (cata to legion).

Boa and increased drop rates would be a huge improvement. Also increasing the amount of frags we can hold.

As a self proclaimed realm first bfa arch to max (I actually did this and to my dismay the FoS was removed…) I’d still play if they kept releasing it each xpac :sob:

The amount of disappointment when SL hit and we didn’t have an arch update. Like are you kidding?
No arch in the realm of the dead that is eons old? Countless lore and stories could have been told through arch.
Now DF. No one has been there for 10k+ years and we can’t dig when there are literal digging expeditions? Come now blizzard. One job.

To be fair there is some Archeology it’s just not tied to a skill and sorta more like treasure hunting minigames tied to renown.

At least the rewards were BoA, and that’s all I cared about, lmao.

Once I got Zin’rohk, the bone raptor, the blue battle tank, the monkey paw, and the Sandstone drake, it’s been left for dead.

Actually I remember getting the ghost moose in Legion- that was the last time I touched it.

If the collections and stuff were all BoA, I’d probably actually give it a try to complete the whole damned thing.

Don’t you dare compare that to archeology :sob:

I was very disappointed about this as well. :dracthyr_cry_animated:

In SL I can KINDA understand. I mean the xpac as a whole was very incomplete, so it probably got canned like the other half of the xpac just to get something out.

But DF? No excuse. All the features and mid season patches/updates. They can’t release anything for arch?

Would have been really cool to have a dragonriding mog tied to arch somehow.

Literally.

Dragonriding. Special tmog in general. Ancient dragon mounts for old world. Restore statues. Discover titan and dragon stuff.
Centaur, furblogs, tuskarr.

It wrote itself with the amount of stuff they could implement.

I think the general idea of SL was ‘too vast’ and should’ve died on the cutting room floor.

There is no way you can have a concept of an ‘infinite afterlives’ with various heavens and hells and everything in-between, and do it justice. They decided ‘four’ was enough afterlives to represent this idea.

It also removed any mystery about what happens when someone dies in the WoW universe- they just get spat out into an alternative life, and start again, lol.

There isn’t really an eternal paradise, the afterlife is a machine just like real life, where everyone is just a cog with a purpose.

It’s really depressing in the grand scheme of things- what if that was true IRL? What if the afterlife is just ‘more work’? That’d be awful, lmfao.

Souls aren’t just people, either. They can be crushed into a useful anima powder, and used to power machines. What if that happened to me, oof.

Nah they limited it in a good way. The problem is when it launched, they set the bar REALLY high.
Then failed to keep up with content and cut waaaay too much.

They failed so bad at content, they cut an entire raid and tier. See the filler tier of fated.

The broken/rushed storyline of korthia/maw/ZM. It was just all bad. Which is sad because S1 was actually good.

I don’t think that’s the problem.
The problem was they rushed it so much, they couldn’t actually tell a good story. So it just became a jumbled mess of plotholes and wtf is this?

There are plenty of stories about souls being massive power sources, so their story made sense. They just went about it in a trash way.

Yeah, it essentially was a WoD 2.0, with the amount of cut content.

I actually do remember people really liked it when it came out, the only thing people really wanted was a maw skip, and we eventually got that, too.

Too bad the expansion didn’t pan out as amazingly as the launch did.

We get an expansion largely about exploration and get an entire faction dedicated to archaeology, yet…no archaeology update. Huge missed opportunity, but that’s about par for the course with Blizz.

The Brokers in Shadowlands, same deal. They lived (died?) for this kind of stuff, and yet, nothing for the players to involve themselves with said artifact-hunting aside from dungeon quests.

At least their mega-dungeon was really cool.

See the first one no one every thinks about is cata.
Cata was a great xpac, but it could have been legion level if they didn’t cut what they did.
Vashj’ir was supposed to be like… korthia or the maw. And have its own massive underwater raid. But it was too extensive and too much for them to finish in the time crunch.

Yea season 1 was actually amazing. I loved it. Then we got korthia/sanctum.
Crafted legos was also an awful system because only the rich could afford them. I still remember 500k+ per lego on my server xD

Sadly it had the potential to be one of the best.
Especially with how the last tier was supposed to be.

I don’t know if you know this, but Sepulcher was 2 raids combined.
It was originally supposed to end at anduin.

Time constraints and all that… we got a miss matched raid that made no sense and a super rushed story in zm.

I actually enjoyed archeology. Sad that it got abandoned like it did.
