HI Dev Team,
Over the past couple of months I have been looting the mining carts in the garrison on my warrior (Freeman-Aman'thul). My warrior never had archaeology to date. The other day I maxed out the Ogre fragments so I decided maybe now was a good time for him to learn it. I went and learnt the profession only to notice that all of the artifacts were greyed out; even the Draenor ones which I have fragments for. My first thought was that learning the profession wipes out all of those artifacts but the next day I go into the mine and cannot loot Ogre fragments. I was able to loot some Arakkoa fragments which unlocked the UI to solve artifacts however since I am maxed out with Ogre I cannot get a new fragment to unlock the UI for Ogre artifacts.
Can this please be fixed either unlocking based on current inventory or stopping the minecarts dropping Archaeology fragments for those who do not have the profession.

Unfortunately you'll have to wait for Patch 6.1. They're increasing the fragment cap to 250 so you'll be able to loot more fragments to unlock the Ogre button in the Archaeology window.
Have you tried going to one of the Ogre digsites and digging? Or do we only "discover" the race by looting at least one of their fragments?

I tried going to an ogre digsite and looting one of the fragments from there. They appear to only be discovered when looting one fragment.

Yes that will resolve the bug for me but this will occur again for others who decide to cap out to 250 then grab Archaeology.
I'm capped @ 250 on a toon who was getting them through garrison rewards before actually completing an Ogre digsite to unlock the Ogre tab.

Still not fixed, my druid is at 250/250, but has not “discovered” ogre so i can’t use them.
Just discovered my old shaman alt has the same issue. She learned archaeology during leveling in Spires of Arak way back in WoD and got a few levels from the treasures in that zone but never did any dig sites. I started doing WoD table missions on my old toons again recently and this toon maxed out Ogre fragments from table missions but is unable to use them at all. The race is grayed out in the profession window. Doing a dig site did not fix the issue because she couldn’t loot any fragments and I have a 50 fragments mission that cannot complete right now.
the answer to this is probably always going to be the same.
open a ticket, and a GM will open the race for you.
