Arcanite Reaper is alive!

Background

Before getting into the ‘what’ and ‘why’ of Arcanite Reaper as a whole, I think it’s important to give you a summary of my own experience ever since the original release of Classic to maybe help you determine whether you’re someone who is of a similar mindset like myself to have been motivated enough to transfer to Arcanite Reaper in the first place.

I, along with a close friend of mine, was the co-founder of an incredibly successful guild that essentially spawned from a group of people involved in a fairly popular Classic podcast at the time, with similar MMO goals and interests. I wrote our guiding principles, our guild charter, our loot council structure - everything that I felt was necessary to create and maintain a cohesive community. Almost a year went by and, after AQ40 was released, I stepped down from a leadership position because time was in short supply with a family that needed me to not be raiding as often and also because the culture in my guild had started to deteriorate over time as I had begun to be less hands-off with everything. I quit Classic entirely for nearly 8 months until my wife and I decided to get a late start on Burning Crusade at the end of June. It wasn’t long after that in which I had immediately regret my decision trying to insert myself back into the atmosphere of my guild I hadn’t associated with for over half a year because of a server overrun with grief-inducing world PvP and what seemingly appeared to be a newfound mindset of the guild I created. It was only a few short days later that I had happened upon exactly what I needed…

Why you should transfer!

Browsing YouTube for something to pass the time while waiting for my respawn timer to fade, after having been killed for the n’th time in a row, the algorithm saw fit to push my least favorite streamer front and center with what appeared to be a meme video about “Playing on a dead server.” I figured I’d give it a look as I assumed the title was referring to original Classic players that had decided not to transfer and I thought “well, it can’t be much worse than how toxic my own server has seemingly become.” What transpired, however, was honestly such a refreshing take on the small server lifestyle that I had to personally seek out the individual in question and get some answers to my own questions. It took no more than 30 minutes and another open world gank for my wife and I to be convinced that transferring was the right thing for both of us. My personal experiences thus far have led me to a few distinct conclusions:

  • Your reputation matters.

  • Your guild of choice is your family.

  • The small Auction House requires you to get a little creative.

  • Farming for professions has never been easier.

  • The raiding community is very much alive and well.

Why you shouldn’t transfer!

Nothing is worse than joining a guild or a server and having what is essentially the equivalent of buyer’s remorse after putting in a partial time commitment. The difference here would be that you’ve now slapped a price tag onto it and feel obligated to suffer through it. Nobody wants that for you, so I’ll give you a list of definite reasons why you should not transfer to Arcanite Reaper:

  • You’re relying on ‘Looking For Group’ to do your heavy lifting.
  • You’re someone that’s prone to drama, whether intentional or not.
  • You’re expecting anyone to care about who you were somewhere else.
  • You’re going to dine-and-dash - your level of commitment will be noticeable.
  • You’re not willing to exchange population for quality interactions.

Conclusion

Bottom line here is that this isn’t some underhanded advertisement for my own guild. I don’t give any time to the drama of other guilds, Horde or Alliance, either; this is simply my way of making a case for the server itself. Time and time again, my decision to come here is proven right by the positive and endearing interactions I have with not only my guildmates, but the other people on the server, as well. I would never suggest to anyone that they should consider transferring here without at least rolling a fresh character to see how the community and world feels with a new perspective on things. I will say, however, that if you’re looking for a tight community server with plenty of room for growth and expansion, then Arcanite Reaper might actually be the place for you!

Arcanite Reaper has plenty of room for players seeking a low key experience in WoW. While it may be a hard sell for you to transfer to, I know some of you out there are looking for this type of community where everyone knows each other. I have made some of the coolest friends in WoW since re-rolling here on March, and continue to meet more like minded players who roll/xfer to AR to give us a shot.

I really hope Blizzard notices our case and intervenes somehow, and gives us some type of support in driving players to our realm. Some type of merger or free transfer to here would really aid in growing our realm, as we only have one Alliance guild here that pushes content.

We could use a growing economy, players for more dungeons at 70, and overall more people to hang out with. The server playerbase is really great helping each other out, and is open to refugees.

Chill vibes only, come to AR <3

Asmondgold’s video was really a great boost for all of maybe a week, there were many interested in seeing what a smaller server all about. Like with most things there were lots of people that didn’t last long, AR is a strange brew and it is not for everyone.

The community is nothing like that of mega servers, in fact it is close and your reputation matters. You are not choked out of LFG chat by gold spammers and boosting services, cause they are not welcome here. You see the same names around often, people are super friendly and more often than not willing to help out. I can only speak for our guild but some of the people are more than happy to help out a low level toon with a few quests they are stuck on.

Since coming to AR I have finally been able to enjoy WoW again, this game for many is in it’s death throes. The fact that for a MMORPG which was meant to be about community and the importance of guilds transformed into something that someone with enough real life money and just get boosted through is a huge turn off. This little server has shown me the things that I really missed about playing this game way back when.

I know a small server may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I do think though if any of these posts have caused you to even have the tiniest bit Curiosity, make a level one and see it and experience it for yourself. There is truly a wonderful and exciting experience to be had when you are not stuck hidden by huge populations and spam. Here you can make friends and achieve something pretty awesome.

I’m sure.

The idea that the auction house being bare isn’t a bad thing is some next level cope.

To be clear, the Auction House isn’t bare - there are still thousands of postings, all relevant to TBC. The point that I was trying to make is that not everything you want will always be there and that you’ll have to think a little bit more outside the box to buy mats so others can craft things for you or to buy certain items for the sake of bartering with others for what you need. No one is saying it’s the perfect Auction House, but the way it is now is incredibly similar to an authentic Burning Crusade experience. If you’re the type of person expecting to buy your way to success, then Arcanite Reaper most likely isn’t for you - it’s going to require a little more coordination than the typical player is used to.

Arcanite Reaper likely has fewer active players than any server in the world did in original TBC. I don’t see how that’s an “authentic” experience.

0 Haste Potions.
0 Adept’s Elixirs.
1 Wizard Oil for 22g (5g each on Heartseeker).
0 Void Crystals.
1 Large Prismatic Shard.

1,500 total items on the AH. Lots of junk, like Clam meat. Blizzard should have merged this server ages ago.

P.S. 49 Alliance online, total.

I’m the guy who Asmongold interviewed and I approve this message! Regardless of the state of the server, we’re having a blast!

I encourage anyone who’s interested in a small-town feel to come over and check Arcanite Reaper out. While it’s not for everyone, overpopulated megaservers are also not for everyone, and there’s a place for you here if you’re willing to have a little patience and put a in a little effort to get to get to know people.

To all the guild leaders out there, especially the so-called “dad” guilds, are you tired of constant wars over summoning stones and toxic world PvP? Arcanite Reaper’s the place for you! If you have a limited amount of time for heroics or raiding, and you don’t want to waste it being griefed, you should give our quiet server a thought. Come on in, the water is fiiiine!

Arcanite Reaper isn’t the server for you if you’re expecting a massive population to be online when everyone else is working. This is very much a server population that I’d say most likely self-identifies as “working adults who come home to WoW.” You pinged our server population in the middle of the day and assume a snapshot of our Auction House proves your point, but you’re instead proving my point: if you want your Haste Potions, your Adept’s Elixirs, your Wizard Oils, then chances are you need to start out at the base mats for each of those items and they are typically available fairly often but also bought out just as quickly. This is an Auction House that moves fast. Beyond that, for example, our guild is essentially a massive self-contained Auction House that sees people freely trading crafting mats back and forth whenever someone needs it.

As I said before, our server is not for someone looking to buy their way to success - it’ll take actual teamwork and dedication… what a novel concept!

Get off your pedestal. The people who min/max do far more teamwork and dedication than your novel concept. Having a healthy auction house is not “buying your way to succes”. The AH is just a real reflection of how active a server is.

To be clear there is nothing wrong with preferring that. You just seem delusional of what it is.
