Arcane Tier set - 4 piece

Arcane 4 set - After Consuming 8 Clearcasting your next Touch of the Magi is instant, incurs no cooldown and lasts for 6 sec.

Currently on PTR, you can only activate the instant procced touch of the magi if Touch of the Magi itself is NOT currently on CD. Does anyone think this is a bug? IMO it should let you cast it even if touch of the magi is on CD, since the effect itself doesn’t incur a CD. Feels awkward currently. What are your thoughts?

Maybe Blizz is thinking you’ll hold Touch of the Magi until you get to 8 stacks, then use it twice.

The 4-set bonus is working as intended on the PTR, except there is an issue with the free TotM not being completely off the GCD.

There are many issues with the 4-set and, as implemented, it ends up being DPS loss. On its face, a 6 sec TotM is a weak bonus, amounting to 2.4 Arcane Blasts (unbuffed, 4 Arcane Charges) worth of extra damage per use.

However, because you need to wait for TotM to be ready to use the free TotM, every use of the bonus TotM adds 6 seconds to the cooldown of TotM, which then forces the delay of subsequent Arcane Powers. The damage you gain from the 4-set bonus ends up being negated.

In addition to effectively increasing the CDs of TotM and AP: for Kyrian, a 6 second TotM is too short of a window to fit in its Radiant Spark/Arcane Harmony combo; for Venthyr, Evocation also gets delayed waiting on AP, which means less mana and less Siphon Storm uptime.

The set bonus doesn’t work with kyrian or venthyr. I don’t think it’s a bug, just poor design. Feels like it was made without taking legendaries / covenant abilities into account.

Back to fire probably.

It’s not a loss by sims. It’s difficult to gauge the max gains from the 4 piece, but it’s not a loss.

The 2-set bonus is a DPS gain. The 4-set bonus is a DPS loss, yes by sims.

Do you have access to secret sims that no one knows about?

Why are you actively working to make our spec worse?

It’s not a loss, because if you have the 4 piece, then by proxy you have the 2 piece bonus, which is a gain in itself.

The 4 piece is too difficult to gauge, but in almost all cases, all it does is add damage in more cases than not, for most non-Kyrian versions of Arcane. There is no sim that will place the 2 piece as a gain and the 4 piece as a loss for non-Kyrians. The timings can become awkward with the new legos but it still ends up being better.

The key possible interactions with the free ToTM are discussed by guidewriters on wowhead, feel free to read them as copy pasting them is relatively pointless. If you haven’t read them I’d be happy to post them here.

Also, as long as your sims are using the current APL you can’t use anything they say as valid when they don’t even factor in how to use the free ToTM proc. If you’ve done the new APL then please feel free to post sims placing the 2 piece as a gain and the 4 piece as a loss if you’ve found one. I personally haven’t found one.

I’m not, I was just talking numbers. I apologize if it offended you.

I am the person who does most of the APL work for Venthyr Arcane. I have tried various uses of the free TotM, and it is a DPS loss no matter how the free TotM is used, due to the reasons I mentioned. Every single aspect of the 4-set bonus is poorly designed.

Why in the world would you equip the 4-set bonus when it makes you do less DPS than just the 2-set bonus?

So far, from what I’ve been saying and hearing about it concerning arcane, it may be best to use the 2pc and call it a day there for arcane

It just seem to be too problematic.

Sebara 100% knows what hes talking about. I hope the developers see his thorough write up in the development forums.

Hopefully. I’m just afraid of what they’ll do with the 4pc with changes. It certainly shouldn’t go live like this.

It’s clear that the goal of these tier bonuses is frost for m+ and fire for raid. I don’t really mind since I’m over the kyrian arcane play.
