Arcane Shot

Hi. One thing I have not been able to easily find in this topic or the development notes is so small and simple but …

  • Why, on Live, does Cobra Shot replace Steady Shot, but on Beta, Cobra Shot replaces Arcane Shot? (in BM(

Was there a very particular reason why this change occurred? I’ve always had Arcane Shot and now having it “become” Steady Shot is just a tiny bit jarring to me. Also, I can’t understand the need for the change. Was it the focus cost? Was it the difference in damage? Was it the cast time?

Also, just checked the very recent change on Beta today. The main class tree looks a lot better (for me!) I like that a lot of active talents have been moved off to the side, for things like Scare Beast and Tar Trap. I like my passives, so being able to fill my tree with passives and not having to “waste” a talent point on something I never use, is really great. Thank you.

I haven’t looked into the BM side of the tree too greatly yet (my talent build on the beta didn’t seem to have changed visually too much at least?) so I left it alone, and was frantically searching for what happened to Arcane Shot. And there it was, right at the very top of BM … huh. Cobra Shot replaced … no, surely that’s not right … ooh, hang on, on a newly transferred character, he has Arcane Shot! And no talents set up!

The game was afoot! So I checked Live and found the two important bits of info stated above:

Cobra Shot: currently replaces Steady Shot and in Beta, replaces Arcane Shot.

My poor little wolf brain still doesn’t understand. Please explain it to me, and pat me, and call me a good boy.

Think it makes more sense that it naturally replaces another spender, now have a filler in extreme cases in steady shot.

For BM, Arcane Shot was never used after you got Barbed Shot because Arcane Shot does like half the damage for more focus than Cobra Shot, Barbed Shot, and Kill Command. Sure you could press Arcane Shot, but it would be a waste focus wise and dps wise to do so. This is Blizz finally realizing Arcane Shot is useless in BM as is instead of changing it to be useful.

In pvp you can kill a paladin who bops at 1% with arcane shot and that’s about it… no other uses I can think of

Why does this matter? When, as BM are you using steady shot or arcane shot?

You don’t use either of those spells anyway as BM lol.

But the change was likely because balancing Arcane Shot & Cobra Shot modifiers together on the same nodes made more sense.

Sentinel Arcane Damage or Dark Ranger Shadow damage should still allow that. :stuck_out_tongue:

Did I not read the Hunter Manual 101 when I was a wee little tauren 20 years ago? Who says that a spell I have always had and used, should not be used, for some arbitrary reason?

It’s not arbitrary, it just does less damage than Cobra Shot while fulfilling the same purpose. Nobody is stopping you from using it if you want to

Use it if you want in BM until it goes away, but it costs more focus and does half the dmg that cobra shot or barbed shot does so it’s not worth it to use it.

FINALLY! ive been waiting for this day, when cobra shot replaces arcane shot instead of steady shot
