Arcane rework proposal

Mana only matters to arcane blast.

Arcane explosion: removed

Arcane Blast: No longer grants arcane charges. 2 second cast -.25 sec per charge. Forks to up to 4 targets for 20% damage preferring targets afflicted with nether tempest tempest. Hits 1 less target per arcane charge. Beam animation is larger with more charges. Chunks mana on cast.

Nether tempest: instant, core ability, costs 1 arcane charge, max 4 active at once. Lasts 8 seconds. Can stack multiple on a target to increase duration, not damage. Damage from nether tempest has a 10% chance to proc clearcasting per target hit.

Clearcasting: reduces the recharge time for arcane orb if it is on CD by 50% for 1 use/charge and prevents the next cast of Arcane orb from consuming a use/charge.

Arcane orb: 1.5 second cast, 2 use/charges. 4 second CD. Explodes when it hits your target doing damage in an area. Generates an arcane charge. Orb size and area increases with the number of arcane charges you have.

Arcane missiles: consumes all arcane charges and fires additional missiles for each charge. Worth casting at 4 charges. 25% chance per arcane charge spent to grant clearcasting. Castable while moving. Missile hits regenerate mana.
Optional: hits up to 5 targets, increased targets per charge.

Arcane barrage: instant, costs 1 arcane charge, 8 sec CD. bonus damage based on arcane charge on casts. No longer shotguns
Optional: slow

Arcane power: 2 min CD. grants bonus spell power and haste,

Evocation: 4 second channel(hasted), grants up to 4 arcane charges. 2 min CD. Castable while moving.
Optional: reduce CD to 60 sec or channel time to 2 seconds.

I like where youre thinking but it seems a little wishful to get all those changes.

Our single target is good. Our aoe needs the help. I think buffing barriage is the easiest fix.

Barriage should add a 1 or 2 seconds to arcane surge and should reduce the cooldown of shifting power by 1 or 2 seconds.

I think this would solve our biggest issues. I do fine vs other classes during trash when i have cooldowns going into the pull. Another issue is that when trash lives long our dps tanks once our burn modifiers drop off. I start strong by 20 seconds into the encounter my dps drops while most other classes ramp up. I start strong and then get destroyed by the end of the pull. If arcane barriage reduced the cooldown of shifting power and added some time to arcane surge it would ensure that our burn phase aoe lasts the length of the pull and we would have for every pull. It wouldnt make us op in single target since we dont barriage often on single target.

To make us more tanky they should change alter time so that when you use it your old timeline sticks around as a mirror image. If you die before using it a second time you come back as the mirror image. If you dont die the mirror image comes back and acts as a normal mirror image, reducing damage taken by 20% until it despawns or is killed.

By slightly modifying arcane barriage and alter time we could make huge changes to our aoe dps as well as our survivability.

I hope arcane gonna get good reward. I personnaly like arcane charge for Arcane blast combined with more dmg from Sparks

So would you prescribe us to cast Nether Tempest 4 times before starting some kind of rotation for optimal damage? What’s the use case for Arcane Barrage vs Arcane Blast? Does Barrage still hit multiple targets?

Its kind of hilarious when you compare nether tempest to abilities like blade fury.

At their core theyre very similar. You push a button and your damaging abilities splash for more damage.

The only difference is blade fury does hundreds of millions of damage in a +10 and nether tempest does like 10 million. Its especially bad when you consider how terrible arcane is for aoe.

Im getting frustrated with keys lately. Im getting destoryed in aoe by players 10 ilvls below me. You look at the damage of the classes destorying you and its all passive damage. Demons and pets doing 30%, blade fury doing 50% of players damage.

Im really considering benching my mage and playing shadow priest. Its just such a shame because i love the mage toolkit outside of damaging abilities. I really wish blizzard would do someting about our aoe. Its pretty bunk when you pop all cooldowns and are still being out dps’d by a demo lock 10 ilvls below you.

Beyond the op classes in aoe, when i run into an equally geared moonkin, paladin, dev, basically everything, its tough to compete. Its not an l2p issue either, i had all 95+ parses in dungeons last season.

Wish blizzard would address this issue

I’m feeling this lately, still climbing, but yes!

My proposal, a 1000% increase in Nether Tempest damage. Which…by the way…I don’t even think that would make us OP, we are so far behind.

Its painful man. Ive got my two bis trinkets and weapon with a 515 ilvl. I get smoked by demo locks 10 ilvls lower. If the mobs die fast they still beat me, if the mobs live longer i get salughtered.

Im farming the tome trinket now hoping it might do more than the fractured heart. Also farming gear for more crit. I still dont think ill be anywhere close to closing the gap even in full bis.

Before i was okay doing mediocure during aoe when i didnt have full cds because when i had full cds I did really well and compensated. Now with full cds and good rng i get smoked. The times when i dont have cds or luck with rng i hardly beat the tank.

Tome is really nice. You’ll love it. I hope you get it soon. I’m still torn between tome+fragment and tome+heart, both are good combos.
