Arcane Power

Can we pls get this back, and not tied to Arcane Surge’s cast time?

Surge is awesome though.

For an ability that blows all your mana, it should look powerful. The little swirly and Arcane Explosion animation are so underwhelming. They should make it look like Kel’Thuzad’s Freezing Blast: an elaborate circular rune floating in front of the caster while casting and then shooting a giant bright laser beam from it.

Well yeah, the visual is underwhelming but it’s plenty powerful. The entire Arcane spec has very poor visuals overall.

Some abilities look good like Arcane Blast and Arcane Missiles. I like the rune and space warping effects on the target from Arcane Blast. I also prefer the new Arcane Missiles over the old ones.

I just went back through my raid logs to see how strong it really is. On a full clear on normal and just the first boss on heroic, my Arcane Surge did less damage than the dot from Radiant Spark.

Granted, I don’t consider myself to be a top-tier raider, and I’m still learning the fights (and likely didn’t pop it at the correct time), but I find it to be incredibly underwhelming compared to the cast time and mana cost.

It’s VERY satisfying if timed well on an AoE pull, but in single target situations I’d rather have the old Arcane Power.

Arcane Surge damages per say arent significant, the damage buff is. Played right, your top damage spell should be touch of the magi

Compared to what Arcane Power used to be, however, Arcane Surge doesn’t stack up. It’s a smaller buff than we used to have, plus it also requires a target, a long cast time, drains our mana, and requires a high amount of mana to fully min-max its damage. The point is that I’d rather have arcane power because it did mostly the same thing, only it was easier to use. If surge did more damage, especially in single target, I might feel a bit better about it.

And no, I don’t think Touch is going to be our top damage spell anymore. In shadowlands with the set bonus, maybe. But not since we lost that and touch got nerfed.

I always thought that Arcane Power was an incredibly boring major cooldown and was really happy when Arcane Surge was introduced just because I love those pretty purple pixels (really the main reason I play Arcane). However, I have to agree that while visually cool, the spell is rather lackluster in practice. Its damage is underwhelming and the cooldown is unreasonably long for that it does. Same goes for Mana Gem, btw. I think an easy way to fix this would be going from 1.5 min and 45 second cooldowns to 1 min and 30 second for the respective spells. But that’s just a bandaid.

What Arcane really needs is to reduce its reliance on cooldowns to do damage, for the devs to finally give us a dedicated single target Arcane Charge spender and do away with this asinine AM spam fueled Arcane Harmony nonsense. Then the entire capstone talent nodes row needs to be redesigned. All 3 are terrible, as are Siphon Storm and Cascading Power (which is still bugged, btw). Orb Barrage needs to become the old Mantle of the First Kirin Tor legendary effect from Legion. Radiant Spark needs to get deleted and both talent nodes need to instead buff TotM essentially baking RS into TotM. The Arcane Harmony node can instead buff the aforementioned single target Arcane Charge spender which would ideally be baseline.

That’s my wishlist anyway.

yea, i cant even recall what its visual looks like. give it a pink glacial spike type animation for that cast time or something.

Arcane power should replace outdated ROP in mage tree.

but arcane power is even older than RoP

They can just put Arcane Power with something like 25% damage increase / mana cost reduction values as a choice node with Arcane Surge (with current values) and make upgrade talent provide 25% bonus and 3s duration increase to both (so that upgraded Arcane Power would get 50 / 50 values similar to Shadowlands). This would allow players to pick one of them as their major CD like Shadow Priests can and might enable both new and old playstyles.

ROP is outdated in the sense that it is no longer viable.
Pvp: almost every class has gap closers and cc immunes.
Pve: Constant movement mechanics.

Arcane power looked awesome. Big blue lightning across your whole toon.

I didnt mean to get rid of surge. Just separate Arcane Power back to its on off GCD instant CD. So annoying trying to use my damage cd in pvp.
