Arcane Power (Dev Q&A Feedback)

Per the answer during the Q&A today regarding offensive cooldowns that got moved to the GCD feeling worse and potentially getting some tweaks in 8.1.5 or future patches (The example that was given was Ascendance potentially being tweaked to do an aoe burst of healing when triggered to give it something to make up for that lag after hitting it and waiting for the GCD).

Would it be possible to give Arcane Power something like that? The reason is because Arcane Power is already a very short duration, and it feels kinda bad to pop it with the intent of getting a bunch of spells into that 10 second window just to have the GCD make you wait to start casting during it.

Granted i have no idea if you get the same number of spells into that window with and without the GCD added to it, so it might not actually be a difference, but it feels a little bad. The only reason I bring it up is because of the comments about potentially looking at some of those offensive abilities that were moved onto the GCD in BFA so i thought it might be worth looking at that one too to give it some kind of on use effect to make up for the gcd so it feels like something is happening at the beginning of that short window.

I would be happy if they just reduced it’s GCD to 0.25 seconds or something nominal but frankly it should be removed from the GCD entirely.

The whole reason for putting these “big CD’s” on the GCD was to remove player’s ability to create a “kill button” type macro which fired all of their big cooldowns and trinkets at once.

But how many “big CD’s” does arcane have? Arcane Power

I suppose there’s Timewarp too but that has all sorts of restrictions on it and lasts long enough for the GCD to not be an issue.

It would be nice if it was off the GCD, but they said in the Q&A that the solution they would rather pursue is to leave them on the GCD but make up for it feeling awkward or bad on the GCD … hence why if they are looking at those, then they should include AP in that as well … imo.

If AP did something when it was popped other than just buff you, i think that would be reasonable to leave it on the gcd and probably wouldnt feel as bad.

I’d personally love it if they made Arcane Power a little more flashy :slight_smile:

It would be cool if you could pop AP and get full charges or get some clear casting procs or anything that just showed your control over the arcane.

Polymorph a player and it becomes immune after 3 - 4 sheeping but every other class has unlimited stunning capabilities. Yeah I agree arcane power should be longer then 10 freaking sec.

Arcane Power really should be off the GCD.

Or if they don’t want to do that, increase its duration back to 15 seconds. It’s really unsatisfying to press with the current super-short duration. You get around 8.7 seconds of casting time with it up and then you’re done.

I agree and also I use Charged Up

Been playing my Arcane Mage again, and it feels awful to pop your big cd, then to get stuck in the globals. Sometimes it feels like there is just so much dead time.

Perhaps they could take AP off of the GCD, or give it the effect of reducing the GCD while its active, or giving it a small haste buff.
Something else that they could do, is perhaps make the PoM Arcane Blasts not be affected by the GCD?

Just anything to make Arcane Power feel better to pop. The numbers that I can pull with it up are satisfying, but the casts themselves (and more importantly the wait at the start of the phase) are such a pain.
