Arcane Obliteration

Channeled ability. 10 second cd. 40 yard range
(Channels until canceled or mana is drained)

Mana and Damage scales with Arcane Charges.

1.5x the dps of Arcane Blast with thrice the mana cost per second.

Hits first target in its path then radiates in a 4 meter circle around that target dividing damage dealt equally between all enemies. Damage increased by 30% for each target hit.

Unaffected by Arcane Power.

Animation kinda like a purple version of Eye Beam, but is channeled off of our weapon.

Sounds interesting but it sounds like just shifting the damage window from 10 seconds to just 2 seconds. The problem with Arcane for me is where Arcane Missiles are just a worthless proc causing Arcane Blast being the only real button in the “rotation”. If the hypothetical Arcane Obliteration spell was a 45s CD + became affected by Arcane Power (halved in PvP) + 6 meter radius + no channel time was listed so assuming 3 seconds sounds good + is a LvL 100 Talent replaces Arcane Orb and makes Arcane Orb baseline.

This would be something I could really get behind  and would be in a good spot to balance and hotfix around.

The idea isn’t to shift the damage window so much as provide another damage window to choose from.* Using Arcane Obliteration in place of the Arcane Blast/Power combo would be an overall dps loss.

Where I see Arcane Obliteration in the game-play is for range AoE burst, executes, emergency ST “uber burst” and rapidly draining your remaining mana before using Evocation. (I have edited my original posts numbers to better reflect this.) Furthermore, min/max players may be able to work small bursts of it into their conserve rotation without negatively affecting their burn phase.

Ideally the addition of this spell would come alongside an increased cd on Evocation + another new ROTATIONAL ability that allows us to generate mana (maybe an Arcane Missiles rework?) and baseline Equipoise.
This would move us away from a binary burn/conserve system to a situation where the conserve phase becomes a balancing act of mini-burns and mana-management. To a system where we have to plan for our burn phase b/c we will not automatically have an Evocation each time to recover from it.

*(This is one of the reasons it is not affected by Arcane Power. The other being that it would just be beyond OP if you specced into Overwhelming Power.)

Right which is why I said I could only really see it if it were a talent to replace Arcane Orb and make Arcane Orb baseline. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sounds better than how Arcane works now thats for sure.

I certainly agree with you on making Arcane Orb baseline :grinning:
