Is it just me, or Arcane Mages really difficult to play? I haven’t played mages much before, but am levelling one in Lemix to get the class mount.
I have a fire mage in retail that I love, she feels super powerful, and has a ton of attacks.
I haven’t really tried Frost yet. But getting the Frost Mage legion artifact weapon, Frost seems to have a good range of attacks available.
Arcane just feels clunky and lacking to me compared to the other two. Those who are more experienced playing mages, is arcane really this difficult? Or is it that I just haven’t fully unlocked or understand her powers yet? (Lvl 30) Update: Lvl 40 now, still feels clunky and lacking.
You can just buy the class mount for 20k bronze.

I already have the fel-scorned mount, I want to earn the original class hall mount.
I’m going to switch to Frost Mage, try that for a while. Is Arcane really that difficult to play though, or is it my lack of experience making it clunky?
There is a learning curve.
Arcane does have a bit to learn for success. There are talent builds that mostly focus on avoiding Arcane Blast and Arcane Explosion use as much as possible. My build was one such that focuses on Arcane Orb and Arcane Missiles/Arcane Barrage. Since we no longer have to closely manage our mana, it gives a bit of freedom and makes the spec more mobile. As Spellslinger Arcane after firing off Arcane Missiles, your next two Arcane Blasts or Arcane Barrages deal more damage and create Splinters. Arcane Orb generate Arcane Charges depending on how many enemies you hit with it. I find it fun, but I mostly play Frostfire Frost because I spend much of my retail time doing delves where the extra control is important.

I like arcane mage but in Midnight expansion the beta nerfs the arcane mage to practically non- effective. Arcane explosion isn’t available - frost and fire get it however. No slow or ice lance to slow target. No fire blast to get mobs away and slowed. My phoenix is the only real help.

I thought the new ranged arcane explosion with a cast time was an optional talent. Also, why did they remove Slow? It should be baked into Arcane Blast.

Arcane explosion is not available in Midnight for arcane mage. Very disturbing for me because it leaves my mage without an area spell. I also have no slow or ice lance. It seems arcane is very limited in the expansion and since my main is an arcane mage, this isn’t making me very happy. I get killed a lot in the beta because too many spells require several seconds to cast or have to be cast while standing still. So it’s die a lot or just give up a quest.

Yes it is. You just can’t take the Arcane Pulse talent because it replaces it. I have been in the beta and used Arcane Explosion. Just change your talents to not include Arcane Pulse. Honestly though, Arcane Pulse really shouldn’t replace Arcane Explosion and even if it must, any talents that buff Pulse should buff Explosion equally in case you don’t take Pulse.

Arcane mage is different than any other class. Some classes have a more rotational style, this button then this button then that, then back to this. Others have a resource style management, what arcane mages and only arcane mages have is a sparkle management style of gameplay. More sparkles equals more damage. To maximize sparkle output, you need to have the right spec, certain talents give more sparkle, others can be misleading you with a cool name (“oh wooow, Leydrinker, that sounds so gool!”). Now part of sparkle management is having a good tmog. You need an outfit that blends in with your spell graphics, this makes you camouflage, when you sparkle, and your spells sparkle, the enemy gets dazzled and confused. Like that one Xmen’s power, Jubilee. The power of sparkle. Most kids only saw her power as being nothing but a distraction, but mainly just kinda weak, but as you watch the series (the cartoon), you’ll see that she also has a cool sense of fashion. And that’s just like arcane mage, aesthetic but weak is our power. Which is why you need extra sparkle, each sparkle individually is weak on its own, but together sparkles are strong.

Ummm… ok. I have no idea if you’re being serious or not, but your comment certainly made me laugh.
