It looks so cool I’d rather do it than frost - but I’m curious if it’s a significant difference in DPS?

why would anything that happens below max level matter
Because I don’t sit in dungeons from 15-60!
Frost will be your best levling spec due to being able to AoE grind with improved blizzart etc… that being said ANY mage spec will still be better than ANY warrior spec for leveling.

Arcane spec is fine for leveling & even all dungeon content, especially if you aren’t into the cheesy Frost-AoE play-style thing.

Faster doesn’t mean better or as fun for many players. My mage isn’t half as fun to solo/quest with as my Warrior - though both are just casual side alt-projects (& still in their 30’s).

Gotta agree with this. My main is a mage and I was literally blizzarding/frostbolting to death. Leveling a war, so much variety and insane damage.
But to reply to OPs question, better off speccing frost than arcane, though a frost/arcane hybrid is always nice and still has good dps depending on talents
Not sure what about this you think is fun. Lol Leveling on warrior is like the worst thing ever. Especcially when you get to like level 50ish. You can only fight MAYBE 2 mobs at a time and have to eat after every single pull. You will lose like 90% of your pvp battles… I just tanked ALL of 45-60 in dungeons cause phase 2 was a nightmare.
they’re all viable, it’s just a matter of how “efficient” you want to be, if you don’t mind not blasting through the levels super fast then arcane is a viable and fun change of pace, not to mention +arcane power items are usually much cheaper, I originally leveled my mage in vanilla as arcane, it was fun but not easy.

To Glinda’s point I’m finding aoe frost to be rather dull. I know I just got to the level you can start AoEing, just assessing options and ensuring I don’t lag behind in the group on dps. I’m not worried about being min max-y I just don’t wanna be the problem child in groups 
Pretty much this. Every spec with every class is viable for leveling it’s just all about how fast do you want to level or your main source of XP dungeons/open world mobs etc.
Even if you were doing somewhat subpar DPS in dungeons no one would really care especially in leveling dungeons. You doing mediocre DPS as a mage would be a ret pally doing good DPS.

Not a lot to add because my mages are 22, 16, and 13 - but it really comes down to what playstyle appeals more. The one I have going arcane feels like he kills single mobs fastest - a frostbolt, a firebolt, and dead from arcane missiles before they reach me. The one I have going frost feels more agile - mobs start to get close and a nova stops them as I blink away and rain more damage on them. I go OOM more on the arcane one, but probably am not playing as efficiently as I could. (The third is too low level to really reflect any talent build yet.)
