Arcane Mage SL request

I’ll make it simple…
Can we arcane mages get a cool effect like combustion fire mages has?
Like whenever we cast arcane power, give us idk an effect like a purple glowing thing or flashes, just make us look better, at least frost has frosty hands and stuff , but we árcame mages look crappy.

Not really, have u seen the changes coming to arcane? Legendaries , covenant abilities, the conduits??? Arcane will be if not at the top in SL.
Mastery Savant now increases ur AM for every charge u have!!!
My favorite legendary- each AM increases ur arcane barrage! Stacking up to 100 stacks!!! Now we have mobility and damage!!!
Conduits increase AM also!!!
We have now 2 extra AM stacks!!!

You really think we are in a bad place for SL? I don’t think so…

enjoy pressing 7 seconds of buffs before bursting
nether tempest is still buns
explosion is still crap
supernova is still zero damage
arcane power is going on a 3 min CD
no more displacement
talents are still crap and super cookie cutter

Lol u obviously don’t know ur arcane mage, u have conduits that reduce ur arcane power CD, but anywho , arcane will shine

meh, .1 second reduction per missile or per missile cast?? either way its still meh. id much rather see them actually fix the core issues with the GCDs required before burst and the straight trash talents. (supernova and nether tempest, arcane familiar, make orb baseline, etc)

If orb doesn’t go baseline, at least make it the legendary shoulder effect that procs it on barrage casts.

Pipedream at this point though, honestly.

Also to me the AM legendary was the most lackluster. I at least somewhat like the semi-return of machine-gunning AM style from legion however.

Getting that shoulder legendary effect will probably have me maining arcane if they implement it, despite the gcd issues.

Yes. Arcane is in a bad place in SL.

The issues:

  • Still no functional cleave (gonna be another expansion where arcane mages have trouble finding raid spots when so many fights have mandatory cleave).

  • GCD and buffing abilities mean a 9-15 sec ramp up BEFORE you even start to DO damage. This is going to impact a lot of fights where you get “free time” at the start before bosses start their mechanics.

  • All the talents and buffs to missiles but they’re still tied to clearcasting which means they’ll proc on mana spent. Given that there will be more conservation of mana due to Arcane Power being extended to 3 min, it’s going to mean a lot less missiles proc’ing than you want.

  • Covenants - Arcane mages have two choices, sure … better than some specs. Maybe a plus in SL, I’ll give you that but both come with Covenant general abilities that are laclustre. I’m also hesitant to hitch my wagon to Covenants because I can see a point where something gets changed because they didn’t have the foresight to see how one Covenant becomes unbalanced and they end up changing it (it’s what they do).

  • Legendaries - The only really functional legendary for high end content is the Time Warp effect from the Legion ring. The rest are laclustre and niche so if you’re only able to equip one, you’re gonna suffer if you choose a niche one unless you only do one kind of content. The fact that they made Siphon a legendary in SL is laughable.

  • Mobility - Not sure why you think that’s getting better. Arcane lost displacement and Slipstream is still a talent you have to select. Mobility isn’t getting better just because there’s a legendary that affords you more.

  • AM stacks: See above. The people who have been playing and reviewing the change on Alpha say there are rare times you will get to three stacks of AM.

  • AOE: Still keeping Arcane mages in melee range for AoE. Makes them less desirable in dungeons where you want your ranged at range to ease the burden on the healers AND in raid fights where ranged are often used for specific ranged-mechanics. They’re not even going to increase the range to what it was in Legion.

The only changes that I can say are good for Arcane is the mastery change (which you mentioned) and the mana regen on barrage (a la Legion Kilt legendary). Otherwise Arcane is going to be a mess in SL like it was in BfA. It will NOT be top in raids and key runs.

Borrowed power should never make a class complete or feel good to play. That’s terrible design. I’d say it even in harsher words, but I’d get banned from posting here. Blizzards class design has been nothing but lazy. Whoever is in charge of doing class design deserves to be fired and replaced by someone more competent in class design. They should be ashamed of themselves for cutting corners, instead of putting in actual work to develop classes and specs further. If it needs a complete rework, do a complete rework. That’s what they’re getting paid to do.

How about 8 GCD’s instead before you can even begin your

ONE. BUTTON. ROTATION.

Evocate (Legendary), PoM, Mirror Images, Deathborne (Necrolord), Rune of Power, Arcane Power, Touch of the Magi then ABlast forever.

Arcane may be doing the most dummy damage right now, but it feels absolutely ATROCIOUS to play. If this is the direction they want this game going in with the GCD changes it’s not going to be good. This thing needs a LOT more work than animations right now.
