Arcane mage question

Hello.

I have an Arcane mage who is Night Fae with Arcanic Cull legendary. I don’t want to switch covenants as I want to keep the mog and don’t want to go through that hassle again, but I have several questions.

Icy veins says the Stat priority for Arcane Mage is Critical Strike then Mastery, but checking on the ladder to most Mages, all of them carry tons of Mastery and not so much Critical Strike.

Most of these mages use Arcane Harmony. Is that the reason or is Critical Strike way below Mastery despite Icy veins putting first in order?

How good is Arcane Harmony outside of the Kyrian covenant? Is it better or below Arcane Bombardment?

I don’t raid btw. Just some mythic + here and there, but the spec. is quite fun so getting into it.

As NF Arcane you will get much more out of Cull than you will out of Harmony. Harmony really shines in the kyrian setup because that entire build is based around spamming and even hard casting missiles outside of CC procs to set up for massive barrages on demand into cds that amplify the damage of said barrages. NF arcane functions differently in that you give up any real ST and instead go all in on massive aoe and cleave. Shifting power alone is really good AOE that is uncapped and amplified even more by arcane power (which it incidentally reduces the CD to). Coupled with arcane orb, it allows one to Orb, shifting, barrage, orb again while in AP especially but outside of it too which completely trivializes and demolishes any pull of more than 3 mobs. In this sense for NF arcane it makes more sense to stack crit simply because you cast barrage so often in the build that you rarely ever have mana issues (when I played NF arcane I can’t recall ever having to actually press evocation). Stacking crit allows for well…more crits.

In Kyrian arcane harmony build otoh, mana is a vital resource that you do need to watch and manage while you’re putting out your damage. Add to that the fact that mastery adds base damage increases and it is an attractive stat to stack. Really though Crit is not way below. It’s more like Mastery=Crit>Vers>>Haste.

TLDR: Stick with Cull and your stat priority is fine if playing NF Arcane. The ladder on arcane mages now is mostly Kyrians

So as NF Arcane is mostly get to 4 charges and barrage? I do get out of mana but only on bosses which is when I press AP and dump everything then Rune of Power to continue until I am empty, and the damage ends up being huge too.

Thank you for the very detailed reply. Have been having so much fun with that legendary. Will continue prioritizing Crit, then. Though my Mage is balanced out atm. 25% Crit and 24% Mastery as 205 Ilvl.

Other than in AP. In AP if you’re AOEing or STing just burn through your mana. The exception to this is if the mobs/mob are in execute range then barrage as well as if you have shifting up like I described. If shifting is up, you can Orb, shifting, barrage, orb to get back to 4 stacks

Sounds good. Thank you very much!

The glasses on your character made you look like a mage teacher while helping me here also, hahaha.
