I tried checking other posts first but didn’t find similar topics. If there’s a thread out there that I may have missed that already addresses this then please feel free to link me to it!
I have concerns about how “fun” the Arcane healing spec will actually be. Based on the information we know now, the only baseline Arcane spells you can heal with are Arcane Missiles and Arcane Explosion; both of these spells use a ton of mana.
Arcane Blast seems like a given meta rune that all of us will take to be more efficient. However, I feel like it leaves little room to play around with different rune combos such as Rewind Time.
Perhaps I might be jumping the gun with my opinion but I wonder if other players share similar concerns or have ideas already on how they plan on building their toon?
Most healers dont have many heal spells at lvl 25, u will prolly get more healing runes later, patience

Not sure how much they changed but at the blizzcon test mage healing was ok mana wise. Gameplay was just spam mind flay that heals allies.

100% this. People are acting like we are already 60. Lv25 content is pretty simple and every class has a pretty small toolkit available at this point. Mage should be perfectly fine healing at 25.
You’re not wrong at all. At level 25, mana conservation can be difficult for all healers anyway. Arcane Missles costs a bunch of mana per cast, so how will that play into longer boss fights if you choose to go with Rewind Time instead of Arcane Blast?
I healed WC once as a rogue, after the healer dropped. I used bandages on party members and passed out potions lol. We cleared the dungeon.

I just wouldn’t take rewind. Arcane blast just seems objectively better, at least at this stage of the game. Also, don’t forget that during periods of low damage you could always just wand. Plenty of good arcane wands available.
That is super true. I didn’t realize that Arcane wand damage could convert to healing w/ Temporal Becon on
I assume it would, at least that’s the way I read it. Then again until the game launches who knows.
Spirit will be your biggest friend.
I’ll be Arcane for damage and healing and have made posts on various forums about some changes I think they will need to make (purely because the arcane talent tree is completely terrible and post 40, you end up with 20 useless talent points).
Early on, it will be a game of spirit > int and I still think they should put more focus on the spirit part as well (a caster dps spec whose main stat is spirit would be pretty dope imo).
But I wouldn’t stress it too much just yet.
The heals will be pretty solid at level 25 and you will want to be wanting to play around with the 5sr anyways for regen ticks.
Seems like arcane mage is going to work a lot like modern priest atonement healing.
But they can also just channel a healing beam into someone
There’s a lot of unknowns about Arcane healing and Blizzard seems to be intentionally keeping it that way so we can’t plan ahead. The mana costs on the current PTR datamine are completely insane and hopefully not the real values that go live. IE: mass regen costs 69% base mana on the PTR version. Far beyond the cost of any other healers spells. Regen is 43%, both much higher than their Blizzcon reveal costs of 21% for mass regen and 32% for regen.
We also don’t know if they’ll bother to change Arcane Concentration. That talent currently specifies it only procs off damage and makes the next damage spell free, but mages could never heal before, so it might be changed to proc off damage or healing and let you free-cast damage or healing spells. If that’s the case, you can fish for conc procs using rank 1 spells and then cast free max rank spells either damage or healing.
We also don’t know if arcane wands transfer healing, but the tooltip wording makes it seem as if they will. Though even that being the case, the current mana costs seem way too high atm.
i think they really want us to discover stuff lol
If arcane ends up being the way I think it will, it might be like in retail where having max mana is ideal and you can simply regain it fast doing something.
Not sure how with works with healing since mana management is supposed to be crucial for healers.
