Arcane & Fel long term effects

Hi guys,

Hope everyone’s day getting by and easy!

I haven’t done much research but from what I recall certain magic source properties has had some sort of an effect on the mortal’s physical & mental state,

If I am right, long prolonged use of Fel does deteriorate your physical/mental form & possibly towards demonic mutation like that of DH and some Warlocks like Gul’Dan?

What exactly are the repercussions of long excessive use of Arcane despite the fact that it enhances your mental state & in a way, alters your physicality?

Are both just addicted as if one were to indulge into alcohol/drugs etc?

There seems to be drawbacks to being infused with any kind of energy, be it Fel, Light, Void, etc.

The drawback of Arcane seems to be that it’s extremely addictive if it becomes part of your physiology rather than just something you wield.

This is a good question. One may look towards the destruction of Theramore; Jaina’s exposure to that much magic irradiation caused her hair to turn white; so (potentially) the equivalent of many many centuries of magic exposure over the course of seconds did that, but physiologically that’s the only way it affected her.

Unless she’s been grinding down and snorting relics on the side now.

Wouldn’t that also accelerate aging to a faster rate like that of Khadgar & any non-Elf mortal being? In regards to Arcane that is.

PS: Kael’thas & illidan over time started to look more Fel demonic due to excessive siphoning of Fel, an awful drawback fate for those manifesting on Fel

Im pretty sure light and arcane can make you live longer or even forever and/or make you more powerful in some way/shape/form but it can also affect your mind

Also

I know this has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but how come your velf looks like that? Did they added non purple skin options when i wasnt looking?

Was wondering about that too!!

Maybe that ought to fix the “high Elf” solution sorts LOL!

Average exposure to Fel causes Draenei to have the faces of Wrathguards becoming Broken.

Argus Broken look like Draenei with Wrathguard faces covered in scars. This is the result of constant exposure to Fel. Physical form doesn’t deteriorate from exposure to Fel.

Arcane of course does deteriorate one’s form and mind from too much exposure.

Ivanyr found a trove of Arcane energy and draining it caused his mind to deteriorate despite his body being sustained by it. Pure Arcane will deteriorate a Nightborne’s mind unlike diluted Arcwine(which is made from Shadow infused Berries infused with the Nightwell’s Time Arcane energies) as well as fail to satisfactorily fix the addiction.

Infact pure Mana Chunks give the Player 100 Ancient Mana at most while Twice-Fortified Arcane gives them 300 which shows how addictive and useless at sating the addiction Pure Arcane is compared to diluted Arcwine.

Yes I’m implying the Player is consuming the Arcane him/herself and gets more satisfaction from Arcwine than he/she gets from Mana Chunks!

Fel bolsters one’s power and cures the Arcane hunger for sustenance but not the hunger for power as shown by Kyrtos who even as a Felborne still craves power(deciding to consume the Player’s Soul) even after his hunger for sustenance is gone. Even the Arcane entity Aluneth hungers for power.

The fact that not all converted Demons are chaotic and need an Orb of Inner Chaos or the Blood of Sargeras to fill them with violent thoughts it seems Fel on it’s own does nothing but turn people into Demons over time(and drain the land surrounding them of Life).

Haha in response to your questions, I’ve gone for this undead elf look thanks to the ambient lighting on a staff skin I’m using. The name escapes me currently! Check it out in my profile though. (I’m on my phone in transit or else I’d check myself)

You’re looking for consistent rules… like the kind you’d expect to find in a D20 game perhaps.

Look elsewhere, a consistent theme is that every road traveled to corruption seems to be a unique one. Some people become corrupted the first moment they touch the pages of a book of magic. Others seem to wield the power of gods yet still retain their basic humanity.

Still others have been broken by mere exposure to the Fel without wielding it themselves. The Broken are your textbook example, and those were the first draenei met in the franchise… back in the days of the RTS.

It really is a case by case scenario.

Khadgar lost his youth from Medivh/Sargeras basically casting Drain Soul on him, nothing to do with the arcane. Heavy arcane exposure bleaching hair was established way back in The Last Guardian.

Well save that it was arcane done onto him as it were.

At some point he apparantly got better. as he’s no longer the rather wizened old man you first meet in Shattrah.

I think the deterioration has to due with lack of discipline/over indulgence.

Gul’dan is a prime example of what happens when someone takes fel to the extreme, and as with arcane it does have a negative effect on ones physical appearance. That said, Gul’dan was weak/skinny before taking up the fel, and he’s our primary example, so we don’t have a plethora of figures to give us any indication that this is the norm.

Makes perfectly sense then, it’s all about the same upon lack of discipline & restraint, otherwise it will get a hold of you. Like wielding the light, faith or no faith it can lead to fanaticism & narrow minded

PS: your gnome looks awesome!!

He drank the Blood of Mannoroth and if not maintained by violence the Blood drains the drinker of Life since it’s still connected to Mannoroth until someone breaks the Blood Pact.

Fel that isn’t part of a Blood Pact(which binds the drinker to the Blood’s origin) will only strengthen you while turning you into a Demon of some sort.

Draenei exposed to Fel start to mutate into Wrathguards as shown by the Broken of Argus who all have Wrathguard faces. Draenei exposed to Fel and the Red Pox(which is based on the Curse of Sethe) turn into Draenor Broken and Lost Ones.

Fel is of course dangerous not to that which is corrupted by it but to the surrounding areas. The Fel of the Dark Portal, Terokkar Forest and Shadowmoon Valley seems to have drained Tanaan Jungle of Life turning it into Hellfire Peninsula.

No doubt the Fel in Duskwood(confirmed corrupted by Fel due to Medivh’s death in Chronicle) drained Westfall as well considering how vibrant Westfall apparently used to be. What keeps Elwynn Forest in good condition is unknown.

The Tainted Scar in the Blasted Lands seems to be a result of the Fel released from Medivh’s death just like Duskwood considering the Tainted Scar is closer to Deadwind Pass than the rest of the Blasted Lands.

The Fel-corrupted Tainted Scar seems to be the only place where Druids were able to restore Life creating the Tainted Forest as result.

Is Fel more akin to Void/shadow magic since both are bent for draining life & destruction?

I am aware everything is a product of light & Void, like arcane more light & less chaotic

Void Decays Life and consumes matter. Fel drains Life that isn’t Fel-corrupted.

Fel also has no effect on minds unless you have a Blood Pact with a Pit Lord or it’s Mo’arg descendants(see Aggonar and his son Aggonis) while Void fills minds with Negative Emotions even when it’s not connected to an Old God(see the Sha).

Arcane ravages matter and fills one with Power-Lust which cannot be cured by Fel even if it fixes the withdrawal symptoms.

Fel is Chaos incarnate so it’s mutations are random:

  1. Orcs can become Demonic Fel Orcs with the Females becoming Shivarra

  2. Night Elves can become Winged Demons or Spiked Demons with the Females sometimes becoming Succubi(how they get the tails of that Demon that Sargeras stabbed before creating the Legion is unknown) with Terrorguards and Satyrs being a form specifically gifted to specifically chosen beings.

  3. Nightborne become Felborne and…

  4. Eredar either become Doomguard(like Kil’jaeden and the Doommaidens), Brutes, Wrathguard or retain their normal appearances.

Of course Sargeras’s blood fills people with thoughts of burning which is expected since he himself has those thoughts. Binding a bestial Demon to oneself will cause it’s influence to effect one’s mind and most beasts think only the words “Kill! Kill!” so those thoughts will be what you have to content with.
