Arcane covenants in 9.2

Asking for fairly high end player responses here. Is arcane basically Kyrian or don’t play in 9.2 now? I really don’t like the playstyle and I’m not going to keep logging just to do dailies for 8+ months if Night Fae is as garbage for arcane as I’m hearing.

There’s venthyr.

Yes.

Not exactly. Night fae is doable for mythic plus, but you are actively gimping yourself in raid scenarios. Unless you have a guild that is willing to bear a sub optimal build, kyrian for raid it is.

Last time I took a look at Arcane covenants for M+ Kyrian was ahead of everything else by a decent amount. I think Kyrian was ahead of both Night Fae and Necrolord by at least 15% in simulations at 5 target cleave, which I know doesn’t properly represent a M+ scenario, but that’s an indicative.

Assuming perfect rotation and no human error, yes. But kyrian is hard to pull off optimally in mplus scenarios so night fae is still doable. They may also buff some of the other covenants so who knows.

Kyrian pulls way ahead once they get their hands on double legendaries, so I think it’s hard for others to compete. Even Venthyr which used to compete with it in ST is getting outpaced by it once we get the belt since their legendary is virtually useless.

Amen for that for all 3 specs.

Night Fae is not doable in M+ as you sac all your single target by going it.

I mean i did it all last tier and was one of the highest ranked arc mages, and people thought I was crazy then too so yeah its doable. Theoretical output is useless if you can’t actually get off the clunky rotation. I do hear that the tier set is supposed to help with that though. We will see how things look in a month or so.

Well, that was a lie…

Uhhhh at the close of season 2 I was the 109th ranked alliance arc mage in the world and 405ish overall. Top 40 for NA. I ain’t winning no mdis man but I think that still counts under the banner of my previous statement.

It is doable for around +20s like everything else, but it’s way behind Kyrian and especially more so after the second legendary (Night Fae’s isn’t that good and it’s virtually worthless in ST).

The only reason to play anything but Kyrian in 9.2, assuming both double legendaries + tier pieces, is if you either really dislike Kyrian or really like any of the other 3 covenants. Objectively speaking, if things stay as they are currently, Kyrian will reign supreme.

This is the issue. And once again, we’re punished SEVERELY for it.

I for one really enjoy Kyrian to the point I wish it was a talent option coming next expansion, but I also wish the other covenants were a viable choice. The thing is they don’t work well on a mechanical level and certainly not in AoE/cleave like Kyrian does and I think that won’t be addressed this expansion anymore.

It’s not so much now that people can switch as they please, but I really wish they won’t repeat the mistake that was covenants in the future.

Idk why this misconception exists, when Kyrian Arcane is heaps easier because you basically send everything when its ready and doesn’t care about mana as much as NF or other cov Arcane does, not to mention does insane damage on bosses.

Not to say NF Arcane’s wasn’t an option in M+ but Kyrian Arcane isn’t difficult to pull off optimally.

Well in my experience it isnt easy for a number of reasons. One, if you get caught in a mechanic mid rotation your absolutely screwed. Two, if your priority add dies before you get off your barrage your screwed. Three, the rotation just doesn’t (to me) seem natural. At the end of the day trying to do a rotation that on paper does more damage but in reality you arent fluid with is a net loss. I also never liked the fact that it like requires spell queuing and a heap of other macros to time correctly.

It doesn’t and even less so when the second leggo is in play because you don’t queue Barrage anymore. You’ll be able to pull off the entire burst on the move if you sacrifice a bit of damage by doing Fire Blast + PoM + 3x AB and the Arcane Barrage.

Not to mention the tier set will also ease the TotM window by extending it. Kyrian will become way easier than before.

There really is no reason not to play Kyrian now outside of personal preference. It’s just way ahead to justify otherwise.

You’re 100% right but that just serves to point out just how bad the covenant system is. Pretending we have 4 choices when we really have just one is enough to make me say it’s an even worse system then legiondaries (gasp!!!).

Well, you’re right. I hated the covenant system ever since it was announced at Blizzcon. It was extremely obvious it was never going to work from its inception. It’s not as bad now that we can change at will, but the promise that all 4 would be closely balanced together was probably never believed by anyone.

It sucks for those that prefer other covenants, but it is what is is. I myself would like if Necrolord was strong for all 3 specs because the giant skeleton mage looks sick, but sadly it’s terrible for PvE (somewhat good now for Frost in 9.2 with double leggo situationally).

I can live with 5% or even 8-9% difference, but this 15-20% people are suggesting is just absurd.
