I’ve been thinking more and more about Arator the Redeemer and how he might be the key to the next chapter of Quel’Thalas.
Arator, as the son of Alleria Windrunner and Turalyon, is deeply tied to both the Light and the Void. He’s a paladin who walks in the Light, just like his father, but his mother wields the Void. Blizzard doesn’t do that by accident.
What if Arator is being foreshadowed as a “Void Paladin”? Someone who can wield the Light without rejecting his mother’s influence, and who can stand between two forces that normally can’t coexist. That alone would make him one of the most unique and thematically powerful characters in the game.
More than that, he’s a bridge. Blood elves (fel-scarred and lightbound), void elves (shunned exiles tied to the Void) and high elves (what’s left of the original ideals), they’re all disconnected. Arator’s very existence unites these three branches in one body, one legacy. And if there’s anyone who could represent a rebirth of Quel’Thalas, it’s someone who embodies its past and its future.
Imagine Quel’Thalas led by someone young, idealistic, and forged in both Light and Shadow. Arator could lead the elven people into something entirely new. Not a return to the past, but an evolution beyond it.
It just makes sense. The hints in Stormwind’s Horrific Vision, the growing role of the Void… it’s the perfect time for him to rise.
Yeah, sure, whatever. It’s not like they care about the Horde anymore.
Someone at Blizzard is obsessed with Liv Tyler, which I don’t blame them because she is beautiful, but the rest of us have to suffer for it since Legion.
First it was undead Liv Tyler now it’s blond/blue eyeshadow Liv Tyler.
I’d venture to say that if they could go back to 2004 and do WoW all over again with the knowledge they have now, the Horde would not be a playable faction and we would all be humans, elves, and dwarves.
The “regent-lord” title still being around kind of makes me laugh. They really need some kind of conversation in the game acknowledging it from Lor’themar. Maybe with him meeting some dignitary from a new faction, like the Arathi empire or something.
“Greetings. I am regent-lord Lor’themar Theron.”
“Well met, regent-lord. May I ask, who are you serving as regent for?”
“…Prince Kael’thas.”
“Ah, and when does the young prince come of age?”
“Oh, I’m not a regent due to the monarch being too young to rule. He actually came of age to rule decades ago, when his father the king died.”
“Oh… is the prince ill then, with you serving as regent till he recovers?”
“You could say he’s not in good health. We… cut off the prince’s head, actually. I know it’s a bit odd I haven’t changed my title, but the bureaucracy of Quel’thalas is a disaster. They accidentally ordered 100 years of stationary giving me the title “regent-lord.” That’s not a commitment you can just walk away from!”
Lor’themar has no claim to the throne though. No one does from what I know. Kael’thas was the last of his line.
Also the Blood Elves were never an absolute monarchy. In addition to the king, there was the Convocation of Silvermoon AKA council. We never hear about them in WoW because they were all killed by the Scourge.
Lor’themar is more likely to bring back the convocation and be part of it.
The story will take place in Outland and in the past of current events, so it doesn’t make sense to have him become the leader of the blood elves…
But look on the bright side, the Blood Elves will gain great prominence in the next expansion… while the Draenei, when they should have gained prominence in their homeland, Argus, were replaced by a human, an elven and an Illidan.
Blizzard refused to highlight or build any Draenei characters with depth. There are elves in every update on the game cover.
