Arathi in Hallowfall

Something is annoying me. Lots of people are acting like the Arathi have been down in Hallowfall for like 15 years, when the Arathi Empire collapsed during the second war. The expedition that was transported to Hallowfall had to’ve been before then.

And Anduin’s sort of cousin - the shield arm girl - does look like she could pass for her mid 30s. She was a kid when they arrived underground. Second war was like 30 years ago in lore. That tracks.

So why on Azeroth do I hear people - even Bellular - keep talking like the Arathi were there shortly before Legion??? Arathi was no longer a kingdom or empire by that point.

I hope we can get this solidly answered in patch content.

sure you’re not thinking of the kingdom of stromgarde, formerly known as arathor? the arathi of hallowfall are not a human kingdom.

They’re from a completely different Arathi Empire.
It split off from the Arathi of the Eastern Kingdoms back when its empire was still a thing along with some elves.
The Hallowfall Arathi are the remains of an expeditionary force sent from said distant empire that were teleported down there around 15 years ago.

From what I see in replies I guess I got confused because the Arathi Highlands, so mixed it up with Stromgarde in my head.

That said, where does it say 15 years ago?

IIRC that’s revealed in a conversation we have shortly after we meet with them.

Don’t remember exactly or whether it says it explicitly or if it’s implied, but iirc Legion was about ten years ago and they were there before that long enough to establish what you see; the settlements, the infrastructure, et cetera.
Faerin was a child at the time of their arrival, no older than the orphans about in Mereldar probably, lending further credence to the notion if the aforementioned weren’t enough.

wenren althal’s quote was changed from the beta to be more vague. it went from 15 yrs to just ‘over a decade.’ what also seems fuzzy is whether that refers to the time they’ve been subterranean. suffice to say, we don’t really have a solid figure yet.

I kind of tend to agree with this, mostly because look at all the sh…tuff they’ve built down there, meanwhile in Orgrimmar in the drag they have had the same buildings under construction for the past 15 years.

Either the timeline is messed up or the devs are all messed up.

Understandable, since naming them “Arathi” was a dumb thing to do on Blizzard’s part in the first place.

The whole bogus faction is just some new intern at Blizzard reading through the Warcraft 2 manual and stealing names.

definitely both. absolutely both. so much both-ness right now.

different group of ppl, yes we have arathi highlands, but there was a colony of other ppl making a civilization else where.

and thus they became the Arathi in name, if anything they are more warhammer inspired ppl.

the ones we see rn are desperate for help.

I don’t think it’s ever stated 15 years exactly, if it is I’ve missed it.

But what we do know is that Faerin ran away from home and stowed away in the expedition as a child, and she is a fairly young woman now.

So the timeframe is “the time it takes for a child that’s old enough to successfully run away from home to grow into a young adult”.

they mention it in game
:dracthyr_a1:
just not in major areas, just casually as we hear about how the arathi got here.

plus the books say they were here before sargeras stabbed the world like a sore loser.

Okay next question, then. Where was this empire on the map?

I swear, everyone complaining about not understanding plain text are zoomers with millisecond attention spans…

The Arathi Empire (sometimes called Arathor) is a major civilization located on an unspecified Azerothian landmass beyond the Storming Sea. Its people, the Arathi, are mixed-race from the ancient Empire of Arathor and high elves. The Empire worships the Holy Light in the form of the Sacred Flame and is ruled by a divine emperor, who interprets the Flame’s prophetic visions.

More than a decade before the events of The War Within, the Hallowfall Expedition left the Empire in pursuit of a prophetic vision seen by the current emperor. The expedition became stranded in Hallowfall, an underground region in Khaz Algar. Although cut off from the mainland, they remain loyal to the Empire.

There; this time pay attention when you read it.

They’ve been down there for over a decade. You might want to read this.

Nope.

It’s not on the map we know, to us it’s yet undiscovered.

As explained in the video I linked, it’s somewhere east of the Eastern Kingdoms.

As to why we haven’t found it yet, especially with an interplanetary ship orbiting Azeroth (Vindicaar)…ehhh Blizz will think of something LOL.

It doesn’t, the Arathi expedition happens some time between ~1500 years prior when there was still an Arathi Empire, and the High Elves had sent instructors to the Humans to teach them how to magic good, and ~1200 years ago when the Arathi Empire becomes distinct city states.

The hand-wavy explanation for all the major named characters is that they’re all half elves, which is why they have memories of the human territories but don’t know what a ‘Stormwind’ is and have no dwarves or gnomes in their population. Just don’t ask a biologist why this is a bit of a problem.

I figure we just never had a reason tl land there. Otherwise, the storming sea doesnt really let us get there

Personal hope,we use the vindicaar to go there and get their help against the void in midnight, now that we know it exists. Also, a light infused spaceship is probably the best way to make first contact with a light infused empire
