Genuine question here… How are people that are triggered by cartoony spiders not triggered by crabs as well?
Crabs are extremely spider-like. Heck, they are both Arthropods. And apparently fried Tarantula even tastes like crab. You’re trading land spiders for aquatic spiders instead if you think about it.
I feel like this is like asking why someone with coulrophobia isn’t afraid of normal-looking people because they look kind of similar to clowns without makeup.
Im not creeped out by spiders in gaming or anything but irl i run a mile.
The thought of eating lobster or crabs grosses me out as i agree theyre water spiders.
don’t know… I have this phobia, and let me tell you, I have the corpse of a god damn scorpion guarded inside a glass thing as decoration in my room, i can hold the thing agaisnt me and i don’t feel anything.
a tarantula though? just a cartoony bad drawing of a 12 year old drives fear in me. A real picture of one? panic, and my body starts burning, i can’t even imagine a tarantula, my own imagination triggers the phobia.
I have an irrational fear of spiders, but it’s triggered it seems by specific movements and the overall size (small ones don’t bother me).
Crabs, lobsters, scorpions, any other insect of any kind doesn’t trigger it.
Coconut crabs should, by this logic, terrify me but…nothing.
Couldn’t explain it any more than that.
The wife has a worse phobia of moths. Can’t even begin to comprehend that one myself.
Okay, but like, I was horrified by moths as a child. We had these things called Black Witches all over our school as it was open to the elements. Those are these GIANT moths… Well one day a kid threw his shoe at one and it flew down the hall and right into my face… I was terrified of all moths until I grew up lol XD
