Apple iMessage notifications suppressed while playing WoW

Notice something annoying … while playing WoW, I no longer get notification of incoming iMessages on my MacBook, iPhone and Watch. It would appear that something is suppressing notifications.

Any ideas on how to get them back ?

Turn off game mode.

Thanks …tried that and it didn’t seem to work… will keep poking around

Did you find a solution? Just noticed mine doing the same thing, but only noticed it yesterday after WoW updated to 11.0.5, iOS updated to 18.1 with Apple Intelligence, AND WatchOS updated to 11.1. I get no notification on any device, except for the lock screen notification, but no sound. I only started happening yesterday.

I haven’t had messages sound on macOS in years. WoW or not. i think it’s just an apple bug and no idea what causes it. it has to do with apples continuity tech where it only sends notification where it thinks you are. it’s why your watch won’t send one if phone is on, and it’s supposed to be phone won’t sent one if mac is on, but for me notification gets sent to phone or watch over mac in all cases. has nothing to do with wow though.

maybe 18.1 and macOS 15.1 made it worse

It only happens when wow is in the foreground. If I command-tab to another app, the notifications work perfectly. I created a new thread with further details, I’ll edit this comment with those additional details.

“This just started happening to me with the new iOS 18.1 update, while playing WoW. The text message will show up on my phone’s lock screen, but will make no sound, and the same happens on my Apple Watch, my Mac also shows no notifications. Some suggestions are to make sure no focus is on (there are none on), and to make sure notification are on (they are). WoW and iOS both updated on the same day on Tuesday, so I’m unsure of which is the culprit. Looked on google and found forum posts for apple dating back to 2016 through 2023, with no solution identified. Some even mentioned turning game mode off, but this is something that literally just started happening on Tuesday after I updated WoW to 11.0.5, iOS to 18.1 with apple intelligence, MacOS to 15.0.1, and WatchOS to 11.1. I hope there is a work around. Some even hypothesized that it could be somehow related to a game mode focus, which I do not have. There is a banner that says game mode is on, and will give higher performance, but turning that off still does not solve it.”
