"Appearing Offline", It Really Should Be Called "Partially Appearing Offline"

Change “Appearing Offline” from just BNET, to an in-game option as well.

So guild members and people that added your character in-game as a friend also can’t see you.

There is absolutely no point to having “Appearing Offline” if it’s just half way there. As it stands right now Blizz is giving us this half baked option with “Appearing Offline” when it’s really “Partially Appearing Offline”

Fix this and make it work in-game for guildies and friends to not be able to see you, as well as BNET

and exactly how would this work?

kind of sounds like you want to be in your own instance of the world.

Clearly you don’t use the appearing offline option, or just don’t have the intellectual capacity to understand the request.

basically you would just appear offline or unavailable in lists… like friends lists or guild lists… However if you ran across them in world well that would be on them i suppose to explain. I play other games that have this feature of appearing offline or busy and unavailable that are mmo type… I am sure it can be done here as well.

Yes, exactly.

I’d like this option as well.

It would be awkward (and unlikely) to run across a friend or guildee while out and about.

But I’m sure someone could come up with something convincing in a pinch!

Sharding would likely eliminate that one, unlikely, concern, however.

you’re right.

so explain in crayon.

Appear offline is a battlenet thing.
Not a WoW thing.

I’m not sure why anyone other than those who are botting 24/7, would feel the need to be invisible.

Some people have friends that don’t have the capacity to understand that you just want to farm and don’t feel like doing anything significant. I don’t hate my friends… however sometimes I just wanna do what I wanna do for a while without someone getting angry about it. It is a feature quite a few people have been wanting for a long time tbh…

If your guild and friends you want to avoid while appearing offline are still able to find you, maybe you should take some initiative and gquit and cut loose some friends

You can appear offline so people (Bnet friends) cannot see what you are doing, but if you queue for a group then they can still use quick join to see what you are doing. You are never truly offline to others. The guild situation is a separate issue because I don’t know how to solve that.

Feels like being obtuse for the sake of being obtuse. It’s a Bnet thing that is instantly make null and void by WoW when it shouldn’t.

Work with me here:

  1. I go Invisible on Bnet
  2. I queue for a group on WoW
  3. Bnet friends see me queuing

That seems to defeat the entire purpose of a offline system. I am offline so my Bnet friends should not see AT ALL I am queuing for anything. Its not always about botting, maybe I just want to queue BGs and chill out instead of pushing a key, doing a raid, or leveling.

It’s definitely not about botting, it’s just about wanting to do whatever I want, without getting asked to do something else. Constantly spam invited to groups when I’m getting other stuff done.

As mentioned before, “Appearing Offline” should be the case. 100% completely Offline. Not “Partially Appearing Offline”.

That’s when you use Appear Offline and play an Alt that isn’t related to any or your other toons or guilds.

the socially awkward are scared of offending people.

this thread has played out hundreds of times, and it always comes back to the same thing.

that, and the term “friend” has changed meaning.

Friends who don’t respect your boundaries aren’t really friends.

Okay so not on topic but this response is legendary, and it came from a cow man in a dress.
This is art.

Yup.

And let’s say you and me are friends. If you’re appearing offline to avoid how annoying I am, are we really “friends?”

Stop being a coward and just tell them you’re having me time and you have a right to self enjoyment.

Anyone debating this needs to go troll another thread and simply understand, what I’m asking for is to make us actually FULLY “Appear Offline” not “Partially Appear Offline”

All your meaningless debates have no merit.

Give us the option to FULLY “Appear Offline” if we want. People who don’t want it don’t have to use it, but for people that do want to use it definitely do want to actually “Appear Offline” in all aspects (Bnet, Guilds, Character added friends on the same server, Communities etc)

I do wish the “Appear Offline” would be integrated into WoW itself and not just battle.net. There are days where I’m just so exhausted from work and talking to people all day that I don’t want any human interaction at all when I’m going to farm old transmog or something. I have a lot of battle.net friends that I love talking to and who are very talkative but sometimes I just don’t have the energy lol. Having them see me in a random queue for Horseman or something might make them feel like I’m snubbing them when I really just don’t have the strength to keep talking.

Yea I actually forgot about that - I wish they would fix that to where if you’re appearing offline, everybody on your list can’t see you in queue for whatever, I mean most people probably don’t even see it when you actually Q, but yea
