It is now against the game Policies. I don’t see an announcement, but the article was updated within the past 24 hours.
Common Problems
* Can I trade gold with another player between WoW Classic and Modern?
- Can I trade gold with a friend on another realm?
- Made a deal with another player to exchange gold between factions but he didn’t hold up his end
- I’m trying to trade gold to another Faction in WoW Classic
Trading gold across WoW realms or factions, or different versions of WoW (Modern to Classic), is prohibited. Involvement in a trade of this nature can result in account penalties, up to and including, account closure.
Sadly that is normally the issue. It is a common way for gold sellers to give you their illicit gold and get your valid gold in return. I think that is why they have now made it against the rules to trade gold between versions. It used to be “unsupported” because of the risks, but they seem to have stopped it all together - rule wise.
Your only option is to appeal via ticket. You will only get templates back based on their decision (uphold, overturn, reduce penalty, escalated to Hacks), but you can appeal until they tell you it is bordering GM harassment. Be polite of course.
The rest of the argument about policy - that is not something we really have much say in as players. Blizzard has changed it likely due to people getting burned with illicit gold. Arguing and getting personal about it is not really logical or constructive.
The decision has kind of already been made.
