AoE-warning Floor Animation Did Not Appear

Hello,

Whatever the problem it was is fixed now, but I still want to report it. I seriously hope a Blue reads this cause this is insane and I have no idea how it happened.

Since I started playing Shadowlands in late March, the AoE-warning animations on the floor were not appearing, and not just those but circles around AoE effects to during certain bosses.

Example of what I’m talking about on the floor:

  • The spell Cracky Fracture casted by those stone generals in SD.
  • Or that earthquake AoE skill casted by the shards in HoA.

But those are just examples, literally every AoE warning floor animation for every other spell did not appear for me up until a few days ago (I literally thought there was a hotfix and it was some feature leaked to us before 9.1 or something. I googled and researched it, and eventually went on youtube and saw that: no, everyone else could see these animations months ago)

Example of the area of effect circle I’m talking about:
The circle around the AoE of Shadowfury during Millificent Manastorm – these were not showing up until this week either for me.

I’m so happy I get to see these effects now. The mechanics aren’t as hardcore as I thought they were this entire time! But I am kind of upset about how many people probably think I’m stupid for dying to this stuff, mainly friends and acquaintances lol.

I would literally research mechanics so I knew how to dodge them, without these graphics. I vividly remember a priest telling me “you have to move out of the way!” when talking about the earthquake spell casted by the shards in HoA, and thinking to myself “wtf is he talking about” and then read up the mechanics of the shards somewhere on the internet – this leads me to something else I want to mention: I literally thought the way I could predict where the earthquakes were going to be casted was the dust that appears above the floor before these are casted; that is all I saw. So I think this problem was exclusive to the floor, and fx floating above the surface I could see.

If a blue comments, I will glady share my specs. But I don’t know my specs by heart and currently in queue for a M+, so I won’t be bothered with it right now. But I will tell you I use an older radeon card. Windows 10, on a bootcamped Mac.

This is an issue I experience as well. When your settings are at a lower quality, some spells will not load. Another big thing for me is dying to the three ladies before Devos in Spires of Ascension.

Here is what the spears and their residuals should look like, for reference:

Wow… do we know the exact parameter adjusted that causes this?

This feature of the game is kind of a huge deal.

I am not sure! But I would be grateful to know so please ping me if anybody has the answer. All I know is that I usually have my settings on the level 1 preset, and the graphics were not visible, but when I tried the dungeon on the level 7 preset, they loaded (very slowly)!

Update: I am reading https://www.reddit.com/r/CompetitiveWoW/comments/9a92si/graphics_settings_for_dungeons/ and it might be helpful.

I see… interesting! Now that you mention it, I keep mine at 1 usually… but it looks like its now up to 2? it must have switched automatically… weird!

Reading the post you sent – LIQUID DETAIL!

I found a helpful comment! Perhaps this is the answer:

(From Milkmaid93 of Reddit)

Projected Textures: On

Liquid Detail and Particle Density: Fair or Higher

The only time I’ve ever turned off Projected Textures was on fights like Mythic KJ as it allowed you to see the avoidable circles easier.

Depending on your PC, What I do is play the game at an 8 by default, but I have Raid/Dungeon settings enabled and I lower the preset to 4, lower view distance to 1, while making sure Outline mode stays on as well as the settings above. PC sits at 100fps in raids and dips to 70 at the lowest during heavy spell/mechanical parts. (i7 4700k, 980ti)

To be honest, I don’t understand most of the last paragraph. But I’m going to turn on Projected Textures and make both Liquid Detail and Particle Density Fair to see if it works!

Those right there. Also, I think in the patch notes for 9.1, they said something about adding warnings or descriptions to some of the settings to warn you that you might fail to see telegraphed stuff like this if you set them too low or disable them.
