AoE Ground Target Indicator Missing

I have noticed on a couple different characters, the aoe target indicator will disappear. It’s not all the time, but it seems to happen anywhere. Grappling Hook and Heroic Leap are ones that break constantly for me. I’m not sure what triggers it or what brings it back. I know a reload doesn’t help.

Edit: I tried a re-log and a full exit, neither fixed it.

What Windows version, GPU and driver version are you using? That target indicator is a decal that get’s “pushed out” ever so slightly from the ground so that it renders on top. If a driver or GPU is messing up with precision or rounding, it won’t end up on top like it’s supposed to.

I am no expert on these things, but I’ll try to get these right.

One thing I did notice is it would show up on lava but not everywhere on it, like it was hiding under bits of it. This was in Firelands, and once I zoned out of there, it came back. Not sure if instancing has anything to do with it.

Yeah that’s really weird then. That’s a plenty new enough GPU and your drivers are up to date. It’s possible that maybe an addon has messed with non-UI exposed graphics variables and that you might need to try a full UI reset:

There’s also a possibility that there’s some kind of shader corruption within the Nvidia shader cache. Since you say you’re not an expert at these kinds of things, I’m not 100% sure if this will delete the cache or not, but is the only non-tech savy way I can think to try to clear the caches without you having to get your hands dirty, or at the very least, have WoW try to play without using the cache:

  • Right click your desktop
  • Nvidia control panel
  • Manage 3d settings in the left pane
  • Under the global settings, scroll down a ways until you see “shader cache”
  • Click the dropdown and set it to disabled
  • Click apply in the far bottom right corner
  • Reboot your PC
  • Try WoW to see if it works or not
  • If it didn’t make a difference, go back into the Nvidia control panel and set the shader cache back to “driver default,” apply and reboot again

Either way, make sure to set that the shader cache size back to driver default

Having this issue as well. Seems somethings been going wrong with the indicator in Instances. Hope it gets fixed soon

Majority in my raid were not able to see ground targets in Vault tonight during dragon ride.

Can confirm it is also busted with shaman. Healing rain and any placed totem also has no indicator

Since creating this, I have noticed it happens more often in instances.

I noticed this on my priest yesterday, specifically Holy Word: Sanctify. Haven’t played a pile but noticed this instantly in raid.,

I haven’t been able to see my Shadow Crash in VOI either which is annoying since it’s bad enough it can miss some adds when you can see it.

This consistently happens on holy paladin with Light’s Hammer

I am still having this issue I was able to switch to Dx11 and the ground target circle came back but it doesn’t show up on Dx12

this is happenin to me in cata classic with holy word: sanct right now lol
itll rarely pop up in the dungeons for some reason, i wonder if its an old broken
thing they just never fixed…its so annoying tho

Still not working on healing rain for me in dungeons. Anyway to fix this?

The temporary fix is to change from DirectX12 to DirectX11 in the graphical settings.
