I’ve seen a lot of posts recently saying they like the aoe cap. And I would like to say if you don’t actually do mythic+ content stop providing your opinion on something that won’t effect you. The AOE cap is bad. It will feel bad. It won’t increase class diversity. And I hope to god they change it soon after or before release. It doesn’t make the game more interesting it makes it slower paced which is something we don’t need ontop of the GCD change already making things slow.
Class diversity by aoe cap
This seems to be what a lot of people think will change. Well let me tell you, the problem with casters right now is ramp up time and they aren’t changing that so casters will be the same against 5 targets as they are now. So assuming you can actually do a dungeon and only pull 5 targets a pull which is pretty likely, melee is still king. Any key below a 12 and the mobs will likely die before casters can do 75% of a melee’s damage.
I like the AOE CAP and I don’t do much mythic because its just and AOE DPS Festival.
Not all class have the same AOE capabilities, some are way more OP on AOE than others. So I’m ok with leveling the playing field and capping certain AOE.
When I’m on classes that aren’t great at AoE I just don’t worry about it and instead focus on doing what the spec does best, burning down single targets. You might do better on AoE pulls than me but I’ll do better on bosses
Do you think capping AoE will cause players to invite classes that aren’t great at AoE or do you think that it will just shift the community to inviting less specs and the AoE specs will be even more valuable?
Every spec has AOE that functions effectively outside of a handful like Feral and Affinity lock.
The proposed changes won’t do anything to help classes because the issue is the design of the classes which they refuse to fix
the AoE cap is really bad and it’s another thing that they are having to try to balance on top of everything else and it’s going to be bad.
They are just arbitrarily deciding who gets to AoE and who doesn’t. If you thought there was an M+ meta now, just wait.
Slow pulling dungeons aren’t what people want. M+ has been crazy successful the last 2 expansions. Trying to turn it into a “HAHA SET UP CC BEFORE PULL EVERY TIME SO PULL IS EASIER BUT SLOWER” classic type deal is bad.
Aoe cap makes no sense. Aoe is specifically designed to wreck large groups of clustered enemies. Giving it a cap prevents it from doing what it’s supposed to.
“OMG look at my big DPS numbers on the AOE dog pile.” can be fun.
And achieving perfect execution as a team in a complicated pull where everyone has to do their role perfectly is fun as well. Like a perfectly executed double play in baseball.
What’s not fun is a group full of AOE Dog pile spergs that instead of doing their job on a complicated pull, all run for the ball.
