AOE CAP is Gamebreaking

There are still a lot of uncapped aoe, they are just making this a feature exclusive to some classes. Now we have a large variety of different aoes for different situations, making it way more interesting than before.

There’s a large difference between complaining about something and having an opinion. I didn’t make threads whining about anything or attack other posters that disagree with my position (unlike other people i won’t mention).

I simply believe that even though all classes/specs should have their strengths and weaknesses, i don’t feel that the gaps need to be as massive as they are. Specs don’t need to be utterly useless in 95% of mythic dungeons that get ran on any given day of the week simply because they really come out and shine in the final/upper 5%.

Don’t get me wrong, i always do more than my fair share on bosses but it just gets a little disheartening to watch certain classes jump in and blow every trash pull to pieces while i struggle to stay above the tank.

It’s all fine and well to say i’d be doing better if i was in much higher keys but that simply isn’t where the vast majority of people play.

There is a greater underlying issue at play within the game… mobs are just not that dangerous or interesting.

We want to run around and group up as many as we can … because we can and its more efficient.

Give more mobs the ability to death grip, net, have huge front telegraphed attacks to avoid and avoid CC/pet aggro, make survival a challenge over just rounding everything up and aoeing it down.

Oh no pulling 20 mobs at a time might actually cause a threat to you while leveling?!?! Omg noooooo the horror!!1

/eyeroll

In vanilla the aoe cap was a thing. The game was not ruined. This will change up how people play which many do not want to adjust.

Is this aoe cap for mythic dungeons only ? 15 years as frost mage would have to tell blizzard to you have gone to far if not.

you’re strentgth is ramp multi dotting dmg.

Also destro is the better m+ spec. and better everything spec.

Even if affliction was good. it’s str wouldnt be front loaded burst dmg. its a ramping class.

You are complaining your spec isnt good at something that isnt supposed to be ur str by design where as melee’s str by design IS front loaded dmg.

AoE caps create some form of balance. It finally allows them to tune aoe spells with a hard cap in mind/tune content based around not being able to cheese it via mass pulling - you can still mass pull, but it isnt forced upon you anymore, and will take you the exact same amount of time to kill a pack (less mob travel time) if you pulled 5 or 10 or 20 mobs.

Higher keys where you dont have to mass pull to hit the timer? Imagine wanting to improve this style of gameplay and actually tune content around skillful gameplay, removing downtime between pulls, tank mitigation becomes less of an issue allowing extra dps - no more mass aoe meta classes dominating m+ - if you dont look foward to the cap in some way/shape/form, the only thing you care about in game is that damage meter and being on top of it during trash pulls.

Is it just me or are the majority of people in favor of this AoE cap not going to really notice the effect it has because they don’t do the content that this will affect the most?

This is a much better solution to a niche problem. Don’t punish everyone please.

Honestly after playing the beta I wouldn’t have known the aoe cap existed if someone hadn’t told me

The majority of trash packs get exploded by outlaws in m+ still

Everyone still does very decent AoE damage

is just me or blizzard complicate them self

We always ask that the classes are well balance, now with AOE cap, some skill have 5 other 8 others uncap etc… i wonder who was the developer that came with the idea after 15 years… now tuning classes, skills, % of damage, stat point ratio, now lets add another variable to mess with everything that we havent even been able to solve

The fun isn’t the issue, the issue is that “mass-pull and nuke it all” becomes the answer to everything. And balance skews because the classes who can do massive aoe like 8.3 Havoc DH or Fire Mage will jump miles ahead of other classes. If one strategy becomes the de-facto way of approaching different challenges, Blizzard should step in and do something about it. Whether an aoe cap is the right thing to do, I can’t say.

My issue is that the design of the content rewarded this playstyle. If the task needs to be completed in a fixed amount of time, the answer will always be to find ways to complete the task the quickest.

It was frustrating to hear that the gameplay was degenerate without acknowledging that it was emergent from the game content. It felt myopic to make an assertion like that.

Certain affixes and dungeons did prevent this kind of playstyle, King’s Rest, explosive, and Bolstering being some examples. Which I think are more interesting ways to balance. But in the end, we will find ways to make do with the tools we have.

then balance the class spell, is easier than add a new variable to every one else.
example, shaman lighting only hit 3 targets where other AOE does to all the enemies in the radio. then change that spell to affect all, because now introducing a new variable mess every thing, disbalance all the classes and now all the twekcs that need to be made, are they , for the class? should be cap at 3,5 8 targets? isn’t also easier to do X amount of damage divided by the the amount enemies in the radio?

they keep complicating themself and us in the process. game should be easy fun, not really need to get so much into the number, now i have to read the skill, the damage, the multiplication, the cap… every expantion wow remove the fun out if it.

I just wish they would make it like a “smart” aoe that targets higher priority enemies first. Right now, I could be fighting 6 enemies, 5 trash and 1 elite, with a 5 target aoe ability and hit all of the trash mobs while ignoring the elite. That needs to change.

I think that the AOE cap is silly. Blizzard should either remove it or just compromise and raise it to something like 15.

yep i super dumb, remove the fun of the game, now more thinking to do when i just want to come from work, start the PC and kill stuff… that new variable to mess around will be changing all along the expansion in every patch. just for a few players…

i think blizz forget their main target and they could easy made a difference.

  • After mythics lvl #… introduce affix AOE cap…
  • Max cap 15 since no pull for normal players is more than 6 ish… in general

i really want to know the story behind that, who was doing what that came next day to work and… “Guys check this idea! AEO CAP!!!” and i want to know the story of the team to be “like YEA that’s amazing! that will solve all our problems!”

they changed water, just for arenas. esports blah.

Easier to implement I guess. A blanket nerf accross the board.
