Anyway to stop game from respeccing me

I join a dungeon as DISC - because I hear you can dps with it (and it works well) but every time I join a dungeon it autoswitches me to shadow ?

Disc is a healer spec. You do DPS to heal through atonement.

Joining a queued dungeon group will automatically switch you to a spec for the role you signed up for, if you’re not already in that spec. So if you sign up as a dps (shadow) and are in a healer spec (disc), it will switch you to a dps spec and vice-versa. I think this is true for LFR as well but haven’t done LFR in a long time in the “wrong” spec.

i dont think lfr works like that joined lfr as a dps but main is tank to learn the fights
did not switch over

Surprised it doesn’t work in LFR since often enough dps characters with a healer spec queue as healer to get a faster queue time (and leave the raid team with a shortage of healers). Then again, it’s the WoW dev team, so not that surprised they overlooked the benefit this might provide for LFR as well as dungeons.

Shadow does far more damage than disc, which is why it is a DPS spec. Heal or play shadow.

Is it bad that I initially read the title as “Anyway to stop the game from respecting me”?

Anyway, if you queue in as a DPS but in a healer spec, the game should (and sounds like it did) respec you in to the correct specialization.

I’ve read too many stories about people queuing up as heals/tank but in their DPS to cheese the queue time. Never thought I’d read someone queuing up for DPS in a healer spec though, that’s new to me.

Ask the game very nicely not to switch your specs while you port into a dungeon.

Disc is a healer spec. Not a DPS spec so when u LFG it will always respect you to the DPS spec
