Yes you can find pieces in which she looks bad. And that still isn’t as bad as the cinematic. But to say
Is just gaslighting people when plenty of art depicts her as attractive and feminine and she’s always rocked an attractive and feminine in-game model and will continue to do so even after they did her dirty in the cinematic.

I could see it clearly enough from the link. She looks great, she is unambiguously a Warcraft HE/BE.

Yep obviously a blood elf. Not maybe an ESO elf, maybe a LotR elf, or maybe a D&D elf.
The decision on the eyes stripped blood elves of a feature that makes them a truly distinct species of elves from other fantasy depictions. They made them generic elves.

People have always looked at Blood elves through dirty eyes lol. It was clear from the beginning that the people would be upset if all the features they’ve been thirsting over were suddenly changed to look more realistic for the trailer. Can’t blame the people. Just the society that made them that way.

Yep. Like I just posted in the other Liadrin thread, they need to make her look like an actual BE. She can still look tough and battle weary, without discarding everything unique about Warcraft elves.

That’s like the main promotional art for her that we’ve seen on multiple platforms, saying that she has to be hot when we can see that she’s never been consistently “hot” in her art depictions, along with her voice has never given the impression of “hot barbie elf” and she shouldn’t need iphone face just to appease online gooners.
Even her personality has never been feminine. Listening to her voice lines alone is enough evidence of that.

We can blame the Blizzard that made them that way and then ugged them up.

What does ‘more realistic’ mean when designing a CGI fantasy elf?

I was talking about society making people prioritize lust over functionality. Not the change in the blood elf design for a unique, hyper realistic 3 minute video lol.

Society has 100% always valued attractiveness. Nothing has changed about that and the reception to this cinematic isn’t indicative of any change. It’s actually indicative that society is not changing despite a push to try.

This isn’t true, at least not from a storytelling perspective. If I’m playing a game, and every NPC is ridiculously beautiful, with dazzling white teeth, perfect skin, it gets boring and ruins any sort of immersion. Unfortunately people not playing for a story just want hot elf goonmeat to look at at the expense of everything else.

You realize that not even 200 years ago, a lot of human cultures favored larger people because it was a sign of wealth and capability to eat, right? It hasn’t always been about looks.
Beyond that, who really cares? Does it make a difference in the end? Why not just skip the video when the expansion comes out, then you’d never see her in that realistic design again unless you… I guess want to punish yourself? lol. Maybe I’m to much of a realist to acknowledge the problem.

You realize that was purely due to survival instinct, right? I very much doubt the wife of the obese king enjoyed anything other than the safety and abundance of their lifestyle. The rest was torment and borderline sex-slavery. Fat never meant attractiveness. It meant security.
People have always preferred attractive features and always will. Pushing ugliness in gaming won’t change that.

Except they don’t, in fact one of the biggest criticisms of newer shows that take place in the past is the “iphone face” trend where women look unrealistically beautiful to appeal to male audiences, but this trend tends to ruin the believability and the immersion for the watcher.
Characters need to be believable, and look grounded, making them all hot for the sake that guys like “hot women” is just not the hot take you think it is.

But you avoided to address the real point of my response. Expected.
Either way, the cinematic was still only a few minutes to showcase the major plot of the next expansion that was only expected to be seen once or twice. If you really don’t appreciate it for what it is, then… maybe not watch it lol. Then you can continue to see the Blood Elves in their lower poly, smoother skinned, non-battle-scarred image. Didn’t think making a video that people could look at perversely was a requirement to show off what the expansion was about.

And the success and failures of games that do or don’t push this kind of modern day political activism in their games is pretty clear. People prefer at least a modicum of normal attractiveness in their media. These games that expressly push unattractive characters are pretty universally failures.

Yes they are and whether technically successful or not, they would have been more profitable if they didn’t try to push ugliness as an admirable, even required to be heroic, feature on us.
The average WoW gamer isn’t as threatened by a pretty face as some here seem to be.

Problem 1, every single image of Liadrin, her head is tilted downwards and her jaw bones are brought inward more than a humans is
Problem 2, Ion - He had the artists change the models and put human heads on them because for some drugged up reason he seems to think people with glowing eyes cannot express emotion
Problem 3 - The community, the moment Ion changed her head people freaked out
Problem 4 - Ion sees this angst as a win because we are talking about it, and thus we are talking about Midnight, which is cheap PR / advertising for the game
I could keep going, but I need more
