The Staff/Wand is there to be a focus for your magic. The spell should be channeling through you and out of your staff/wand, not the other way around.
A change in casting animation for staves and the moment you get a wand in would be neat, lets them not just be stat sticks. It’d be pretty classic for mage stuff. Would be rather late for them to do at this point tho…
Would be cool to have more variety for the casters, casting spells from weapon and hands. Some things make sense to conjure with your hands and the more powerful stuff I feel would look neat being channeled through weapons.
No.
That would suggest that staves and wands are a necessary focus to WoW magic, and they aren’t. You can cast a spell-- any spell-- without a wand or a staff or an off hand. It’s just going to be weaker. The various weapons for casters are not the source of spells, they’re a buffer-battery for magical power-- storage devices, and in some cases useful enhancing implements.
But the actual spell begins and ends with the caster (well, it usually ends with something getting blown up, but you see the point). A staff is not a gun, a wand is not a sword.
I’m doing the magic. Not the battery I carry.
Well, you can still ‘shoot’ with your wand … if that counts.
Still it looks cool if your seen channeling the magic through the weapon to perform a powerful spell. I think a good example would be the blood elf in the burning legion cinematic, she lifts her staff with both hands up above her head casting a resurrection spell on her ally.
Or later on she slams the staffs down into the ground and energy explodes out from where she is standing, it looks very dramatic!
If there was an option to pick from only a couple of animations like a glyph that allowed something like this, it would be pretty awesome imo.
They really need to make glyphs fun again.
What happens if you get disarmed?
Am I silenced?
Does the animation break?
Does it end up coming out of my hands anyways and defeat the purpose of this change?
Agreed. This is one thing Rift did well.
You have a very misguided view of Staves and Wands. They are a focus. An amplifier. The power is coming from you, then it is channeled through the staff/wand and shot outwards from it.
They enhance spells. And Jaina would like to say otherwise. She uses her staff. Even once claimed she would use it to bring down the walls of Orgrimmar.
And can be channeled through weapons. We’ve seen this before. Just not for players.
Sounds like you want to argue a gameplay mechanic that doesn’t happen often.
And there are many ways to treat it, depending on what Blizzard would want to do.
I’m just curious what the solution would be for a problem that exists. I personally don’t care where the spells originate from
There could be many solutions. Anywhere from no effect, all the way to disarm stops the spell cast entirely. But since it’s so rare, it’s not exactly a huge issue.
It isn’t, but would still be an issue and was interested in proposed solutions
I’m assuming Rift didn’t have disarm or it just didn’t work on casters, because I was never disarmed. So that’s another solution since disarm does diddly squat to casters anyway. Just don’t make it usable on them.
Or, do the opposite and make the disarm work, giving another way to silence the caster.
I thought about this when I made my post, then I laughed because I imagined what pvpers would say when you tell them anyone with a disarm has two silences now
I like this one since it affects nothing.
Dragon Age 2 did it the best with their staves.
Why do you hate fun?
I thought of that too and it made me snicker uncontrollably.
Agreed. It does make the most sense.
I’m on GCD so have this in place of a like for now for both of ya.
