I finally got it to drop, well not really, it dropped for the priest but she was kind enough to give it to me. I’ve been using it since but the sims don’t seem to account for the on-use effect, which granted isn’t that amazing because of the long cooldown and the restrictions on when it can be used.
I have tested it and the secondary effect that reduces the cooldown when hitting low HP targets seems to have some kind of an internal cooldown on how often it can occur so it’s not possible to drastically reduce it when hitting multiple low HP targets.
Wow that looks nice. What’s the downside? Just a good staff with an extra effect, looks good to me. I didn’t know I should be hunting it, but maybe I should. (Maybe caps at 441?). And since the cooldown gets reduced by doing dmg to low health enemies (which happens a lot every fight) you could probably get it to proc quite a bit.
I would probably just macro it to one of my regular rotation spells so that every time it can activate, it does. I’d imagine it better for mobs than for bosses.
Edit: would probably macro it to ToM so I could get the added benefit of hitting during that window. Tricky though with that 35% restriction…hmmm I’m already back to macro’ing on something I hit all the time, like missiles or explosion, or barrage, because I want to proc it as soon as it’s up and start working down the cooldown as fast as possible and as often as possible.
Please let us know how it plays I am very curious.
You’re making want to pick one up. I’ll let you know if I do.
Only real downside is the crap ton of vers that it has but in my case, because I have almost no vers on the rest of my gear, it actually sims better than a 447 crafted staff. The on-use effect does a ton of damage but, like I said, there is some kind of internal cooldown that limits how often you can trigger the cdr when damaging targets below 35% HP. It does interact with NT but not with Arcane Echo, probably because of that internal cd. I guess they might have put that in place to keep it from being OP on DoT classes.
We’ll, You motivated me to get back on the Dawn mega dungeon :). Beat the first 4, including the earth dragon, but no staff yet. I ran it first week it came out, but not since. I’ll keep trying. Think they will bring it over into season 3 loot?
It will be like mechagon the first half of the bosses and theirnooot will be on the table and the second half their loot will be on the table for the second one.
Currently you get one shot and no vault chance. Next tier it will be a chance in the vault.
Yup. What Snozy said. It’s worth getting just for the cool factor. The ability itself uses the same raising of your weapon animation that Mark of Aluneth used to have, the tip of the weapon briefly shimmers with a sandy/earthy kind of glow while you’re casting and then launches a bolt of the same color at the target. It’s listed as “Extinction Blast” and looks identical to the attack used by the earth elementals that Iridikron summons during his fight.
Update: Tried again this week, no luck. In my mind it’s the greatest thing ever! and even if not, my mind thinks it will be.
Also, switched out my neck piece for a try using the: Allied Wristguards of Time Dilation, which grants your whole party a Vers buff every once in a while. Early tests are mixed. But since I’m so low Vers it seems to have decent impact…but maybe is all in my head.
I try every week for one and still nothing! It’s driving me wild not having this yet!!! I need it!
It has a cast time so I doubt its much better than just casting basically anything else in your regular rotation. An ele blast or even a meatball crit is just as good or better.
Cool flavor though. I wish more items had unique effects like this.
It has a cast time? How does that work out? Like if you interrupt it, you lose it? Or it just keeps trying to cast on each avail opportunity? Or it’s an “on use” thing…how do you know when it’s active/loaded? I’m curious why it wouldn’t just be an instant…I’ve still not seen it drop, but with this info I’m less likely to keep up the pursuit.
I haven’t played elemental shaman at all this expansion but I doubt an elemental blast can crit for upwards of half a million damage. It’s definitely better than just about any other GCD you can cast. That said, as I said before, the long cooldown and all the other restrictions make it more of a curio and a fun chase item rather than a must have like the Evoker staff from VotI.
So of course after trying to get it week after week last season with no luck, it shows up in the Vault for me week 1. But the vault is also suddenly my best friend and put two Tier pieces in the mix as well, so I had to go with the Tier and pass on the staff. (a near constant 10% dmg increase from 2-piece is just too big a deal to pass on it)
I will get one eventually! (even though I soured on the idea of a cast time for the effect)
Can anyone share the Macro they used to effectively trigger this weapon?
I tried: #showtooltip Mind Blast
/cancelaura Dispersion
/use Mind Blast
/use Iridal, the Earth’s Master
And it doesn’t seem to trigger the weapon on use – which is strange since it works perfectly for my trinket using the same format.
