Ever since day 1 of voice chat implementation several expansions ago, I’ve never, ever seen or heard anyone use it. I wonder why? People use Discord voice, vent, etc… but never have I seen a single person use the in-game voice chat, even though it’s been promoted to be used.
Nada. Takes me a long time before I feel comfortable with voice chat these days.
I don’t recall ever using WoWs in game voice thing
I’ve never used the in-game voicechat.
I’ve used external voicechat programs pretty sparingly in the past few years since I stopped raiding at a high level.
They’re doin maintenance on voice chat tomorrow, which means that some people use it
But I’ve never seen anyone or know anyone that knows anyone that has used the in game voice chat
No one uses in game voice chat. It works totally fine. It’s comparable to Discord in terms of just being a means of Voice Chat. And you’d think given that it’s easily accessible in-game at the press of a button, that’d mean it’d be the primary thing used, yeah?
But it’s not. Because people like to stick to what they know.
Discord was already in HEAVY, HEAVY use before they revamped the in-game voice chat to be actually good. So no one swaps to it.
If Discord weren’t around, the revamp might have gotten some use, since things like Vent costed the server owner money if they wanted more than like 5 people in voice. But it came too late.
I’d love it if joining in-game voice chat became the norm. It’d be easy as hell to drop in even for LFD dungeons and such. But it’s never gonna happen.
Insane to me how a genre that’s basically focused on social interaction between players somehow is filled with players that are more afraid to talk to each other than players in an Overwatch lobby. I guess that’s a bit of a tangent though.
When Blizzard first released Voice chat it was pretty clunky and did nothing to move people away from Vent, Teamspeak, or other third party apps. Those remained something raids were more comfy with and had better features.
5? years or so ago Blizz completely redid it and released a very improved version that is similar to Discord in functionality, including chat channels you can drag people into.
The voice feature on it works really really well and I use it fairly frequently. It is great for when I don’t want to give out my contact info, but do need to talk about something. Quality is good, easy of use is fantastic, etc. It is my go-to for use when long distance gaming with a friend. No other software needed.
I don’t ever see guilds or raid teams migrating to it though. I think they are very used to Discord and are unlikely to change. Not unless Discord changes in ways that make people unwilling to use it anymore.
Well, people playing OW use it so that’s where most use comes from
i used it about twice in 15 years.
it works… just not as good as a 3rd party.
Counterstrike had built-in voice chat in 2000… i dont know why WoW’s playerbase is so against the voice chat.
Because discord is just… better overall
Have you used it since the more recent revamp? Because yes, the original version in TBC was garbage. The current version is not.
For Guilds, Discord makes sense. It has more tools.
But in-game voice SHOULD be perfect for pugs that want to use voice chat at this point, but they still use Discord anyway.
but you have to type the address and such. even with two monitors having to check if I did the upper case J or not when it fails is annoying.
but then again anything requiring coordination has a WA for that, so what do you want to talk about in game?
I’d like to see it used for M+, tbh. a clutch callout to stop bursting for example.
i mean… copy paste is a thing
Not in game it isn’t. That’s addons.
Discord or bust.
lmao.
true, but chat addons are some of the most popular addons out there.
i dont have an addon for that so i cant copy chatbox.
and no, I havent used it in many years.
someone should start hosting their key with voice chat enabled, see if you can start a trend.
Found the one person not using a chat addon
But people won’t join it, for the most part people don’t like doing VC with randos honestly.
The singular time I had a pug use it was something I joined for the raid in SL 9.1. It was hilarious, because literally every single person who joined said “I have never used this before”. And this is years after it was updated.
I barely use the in game text chat I’m not going to bother with the voice chat.
