My PC has almost the exact same specs (7100 / 8 GB RAM / 256 SSD - Except I added an RX370 a friend gave me) and I was thinking of getting back in a mac.
Not sure if I would stay with a Mini, try the IMac or try the MBP and use it mostly like an mini (I have a PC laptop I have to use for work)
I have a mac mini. Playing wow at 2560x1440 I get approximately 30 fps in the world running on the “Recommended settings” which turns out to be 3. It can vary quite a bit but its playable.
If you get a mac mini and you have the money you really should get an eGPU. I got the sonnet (but I’d recommend the Razor Core X) with a Vega 56 card. With this setup I can run on 10 at 60 FPS. I have vsync enabled so the card isn’t running full bore all the time. Stepping down to the RX580 may be a better use of your money. Stepping up to the Vega 64 just isn’t worth it for wow in power consumption or money.
9to5mac has several videos on the mac mini that are worth checking out. GL
Thanks for the response. Was thinking if I get the mini, I would get the eGPU. I have a 370 I can put in. to help over the integrated and till keep costs down.
I have a mac mini and the Black Magic eGpu and an LG 5k monitor. it works very well. I run at 5120x2880 at 50% on graphics quality 5 and I everything is smooth and generally 60fps.
Cost effective compared to what? This isn’t a dedicated gaming machine, I use apple and mac gear in all the other business I do. Switching to windows wasn’t an option I would ever consider.
I now have a machine that plays the game well and does what else I need. Im loving the performance of Thunderbolt 3 and now eGpu support has removed on the problems of Apple integrated design.
When the the new Mac Mini was recently released, I was considering this as an option for my aging iMac. I fond it a bit pricey for my needs. But it sounds like a nice set up.
This is exactly what I was hoping to hear. I had to switch back to windows for the past year and want back into mac. The new mac mini, while pricey, is low enough to allow that. I just need to justify the cost. Because the hardware would be a side grade.
BTW I use both OSs. I have used every major OS from DOS/Win 3.11/OS2 Warp and AIX through Mac 7.1, Linux and OSX. I just like my Apple systems.
