Anyone use a 4k display maxed settings?

Just curious if 4k is just too much open screen and everything is too small? I run in 2560X1440 and am considering “upgrading” if it really is an upgrade. Thoughts?

Also, WoW uses HDR if enabled?

If you’re happy with 1440 then stay with 1440. Same thing with 60hz versus 120hz+.

These lower resolutions/refresh rates are easier to drive. Once you switch, you will not want to go back. Which means in the future you will require more expensive hardware to continue driving the panels with games that become increasingly demanding.

60hz gives me a headache now. Literally.

If money isn’t an issue go wild but buying xx80 TIs gets expensive. Just saying.

In short, 1440p looks good. I’d recommend sticking with that for now unless you’re unhappy with it. Kind of rambly, sorry. I’m tired.

Yeah, that’s it right there. I am either getting 3080ti or 3090 tomorrow and I want the best of the best for a monitor that makes it look amazing…or whatt’s the point eh?

Nice! Personally I’d go with 1440p at a very high refresh rate. Like 240+.

I’m all about those high framerates though. I like everything to be smooth as butter.

And I have to pay for it too, thus what I said a minute ago.

Yeah, good point… and I could always just double the in-game resolution though I am not sure if it makes a difference?

It definitely does. It smoothes out some of the rough edges.

Wow doesnt support HDR.

dang, ok. I enabled it just now (on my screen) and it flickered… bummer

Thankfully the UI can be scaled, so things shouldn’t be too small, if you don’t like them too small.

Personally, I just run everything at 1440p on my computer. It looks good to me and runs great.

I have everything maxxed out except for ray traced shadows (it hardly does anything, and it’s only really noticeable when you’re just standing there looking for it). NVidia’s GeForce Experience says the settings are “Optimal”, except for the resolution, which it says should be 4k, heh. But I don’t just play WoW, and other games run better at 1440p, so that’s what my base Windows resolution is currently set as.

I play on 1080p at sometimes 60 fps if there’s not too much on the screen XD

also in general for video games 4k isnt recommended, 1440p is where most people stop, so unless you plan on only playing WoW then I’d stay at 1440p tbh

I’m currently running WoW 4k with a RTX 3090, maxed out on 144fps…

I said this to myself, I don’t think I can ever go back to 1080p or 1440p ever again…

If you got the money to burn I say go for it!.

I’m running a Intel I9 10900k, rtx 3080. 32gb ddr4 4000 memory.
My display is a Samsung q series 4k TV that does 120hz
Wow has display scaling so you shouldn’t have to worry about game and ui elements being super tiny.
BTW the game looks great with rtx on (I have it one step below max. At 4k I do not have the power for it to be maxed).
Whatever you choose op, just make sure than during raids or whatever content you enjoy doing your frame rate is as high as it can be.

This is truly what I was hoping to hear lol - Im sold

but is 60hz the highest that goes?

So where can I find one around 27-32" that is over 60hz? All I see are 60hz ones? That seems to be counter-productive to upgrading to 4k from 2k or no?

1440p at a higher refresh rate is the sweet spot. If you go 4k you’re going to be playing at 60 FPS and you’re going to have to lower settings. This is from a guy who buys every new GPU and already returned a $1500 4k monitor because 1440p played smoother. Since we are so close to the monitor we don’t see the huge difference between 1440p and 4k like we do 1080p and 1440p.

This game uses one CPU core which causes the game to not hit 140+ FPS when the screen is busy. Personally I would not upgrade until DDR5 and the new CPU’s come out. They might fix this issue.

The guy above saying he is getting 144fps maxed out at 4k is not giving us all the info. Granted I tried the 4k monitor with a 2080ti and not my 3080. He’s only getting that in the open world(Maybe). He’s definitely not getting that in raids or the cities. Personally for raids I lower everything so there’s less stuff on the screen that I don’t need. Not hating on the guy above. I want to ‘borrow’ his CPU XD

Plus…a 1440p high refresh monitor is much cheaper. Use the leftovers to buy a 3080 series so you can enable RTX in the open world. It makes everything look a little nicer. That being said if you don’t have at least a 9700k I would wait until new CPU’s come out and then get a whole new upgrade.

**I tried 4k with a 9700k and a 2080ti. So my data is a little old.

I purchased RoG Strix XG27U, 4k, 27” 144hz 1ms, gsync. Hope that answers your question.

Edit: in raids when everything is crazy I get between 90-100 fps, dungeons a little higher, open world flawless.

Hey man, I have an oled 42 inch c2 with a 3090 and a 5800x. Currently playing it in a custom resolution of 3840x1600. Can you help me out with your settings to see how you are getting these frames? Thanks!

Yep, I do and it is awesome.

Went from 2560x1440 to 3440x1440 and would never go back. It’s amazing for WoW.

System:
i7 8700k
16GB 3200MHz CL14 DDR4
Asus Strix 3080ti
Alienware 1900R 34.1" 3440 x 1440p 120Hz G-Sync Monitor

Can you play WoW on a Big 4k TV?

I have a 55 inch OLED 4k TV. It looked awesome but before we started pulling on M+, I dunno becoz I panic’d and reverted back to dual 32 inch Monitors setup.

I love playing GTA V on my 55 inch 4k TV. I am just not used to it for WoW. Looks too big for me.
