they killed off the start bar

Back in 2015 they said no more Windows. This is it.

Then the rumor came out and said Windows 11 2020.

Now it’s June 2021 and supposedly a release announcement on the 24th.

So I’ll wait. And see.

Also I will not be downloading anything until it’s officially official.

There’s been an announcement of an announcement with a warning going out that Windows 10 will sunset in 2025 (I think?).

Initial impression based on leaked code is that this big update will … drumroll … change the default desktop theme.

Not according to the images that I have seen. They simply centered the task bar icons like some vain attempt to copy MacOS and ChromeOS.

Honestly, I have little desire to move to a new windows at this point. Maybe if I build a new system. But really it works freaking fine as it is.

If anything, they need to finalize migration of things like the control panel to one location. Outside of that, I think Windows 10 is pretty darn fine.

But for real, standardize your UI for things.

I wouldn’t say it would be worth trying at this stage but in a years time it will probably be pretty good.

Bring back Windows 95. All will tremble before a true OS.

They giving out free upgrades again?
I’ll wait a while, let others iron out the wrinkles.

Isn’t Windows 10 becoming obsolete in 2023/24?

Just an upgrade like any other really. Though, I don’t use Windows for much these days.

They should really stop mucking with the UI so much. It isn’t necessary. Just like calling it Window 10 or Windows 11 is not necessary. Just call it Windows.

Will I be subject to another non-consensual download like windows 10 did?

Really my only “issue” with Windows currently is sometimes I end up in the older control panel UI. Sometimes in the newer. Just fricking standardize it, it’s been almost half a decade at this point…

:expressionless:

At least it’s not MacOS where I break it out for dev every few years and run into needing a newer version of xCode. Sorry that requires an OS update. Sorry your machine can’t update the OS. LAWLS @ U.

:expressionless:

Maybe if you booted it up more often, you wouldn’t have this problem. Using a mac right now and my OS and xCode is always up to date. :grinning: :grinning:

Windows 10 will cease support close to the end of 2025.

Oh goody, another garbage Windows OS where I’ll have to spend three days re-organizing things to the way I like it because they deem change is good. I’ve never once used Cortana and always hide her.

I’m kind of curious how many people actually use those silly assistants. And I mean directly, before some rando-person jumps in with the “Cortana is built into the OS!” or something. I’m aware when I search for a program, it’s leveraging Cortana at the core.

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone using Siri, Bixby, Cortana, …whatever Google’s is even called in the wild outside of our chairman. Where Siri pretty much abstracts learning to use their phone away from them.

I use both Siri/Homekit and Alexa all the time at home and in the car. Siri/Homekit more than Alexa. Controlling devices, timers, read me the news in the morning, etc… I don’t use them “in the wild” because the public doesn’t need to know my business.

Never had a use for Cortana or Google Assistant though.

I use Siri and google assistant quite a bit and I just recently decided to go in on HomeKit.
