Anyone try out Valheim?

Since my wow schedule has dwindled down to: Tuesday check vault, grab cov quests, save souls, raid CN wed/thurs and then do one m+10 for the week then I’m done till next tuesday I have some extra time for gaming, especially since its winter and not much to do. Looking for some other things to keep me entertained, Has anyone tried out Valheim? Thoughts?

Some of the people I work with have been enjoying it. I haven’t played it myself though.

It’s overrated. Read the negative steam reviews for it. Some of them are pretty good and outline what’s wrong with the game.

It might be okay with friends.

Games like Don’t Starve are x10 better survival games. Valheim is more like a linear, building/crafting game, with rpg elements. And it’s dull.

It’s a survival game, but without the tedium. Some people like the tedium of crafting the same pair of snips over and over again or whatever, but this game is more focused on the next “new” thing. Most of the time you’re crafting something new, since you can repair things for free. The survival elements are bonuses instead of penalties. For example, food gives you buffs that nearly essential, but you won’t die without them, so while you’re doing some busy work, you can basically ignore it.

The retro art style with modern lighting and processes looks cool, to me, too. To me (again) it’s the best of the genre that’s come out in recent memory, and a great balance between gameplay and chore play.

Geesh if anything it sounds like you need a break from wow since it apparently has become your job. Not even joking. Step away from it and take a breather. Don’t let wow control your life.

Im not complaining, Im fine with my time invested. I only play a few hours a week and not burned out. Not sure where you got that impression.

It seems okay, though the above poster is correct in that Don’t Starve is kind of the king of survival games (to a degree, of course).

I’ve personally been enjoying Raft if you want to try another type of survival game, or Grounded. Valheim does look fun, though I think it’s best with up to four other players rather than solo, while the games I mentioned are fun solo.

haha Raft! I played it awhile back when it first hit steam. Fun “Chill and drinking with your buddies” type of game. Is there more content from first alpha?

I don’t know what was in the first alpha but there is a story now, with a human city to eventually get to. They’ve definitely been adding stuff to the game which is always good to see.

My roommate loves it, but he loves all those kinds of crafting games.

Not really my cup of tea. Personally I like Roguelikes. Hades, Darkest Dungeon and Slay the Spire are pretty fun.

Valheim is truly an amazing game. I’m playing with 4 other people on a server and we are having the time of our lives. There is a complex sailing system with a huge world to explore, the building is better than any other game in the genre I’ve tried, and the setting is beautiful and unique. If you like the Viking fantasy I would highly recommend it. Not to mention the hidden boss fights are epic and last for days in game.

Definitely enjoying the game. I do like survival games though. It feels like Minecraft meets Oblivion with elements of Skyrim. Very cool atmosphere going on.

There really always preferences. I haven’t been that interested in Valheim. Personally, my big one has been Grounded or Terraria, but Don’t Starve has always been up there as one of the kings for survival.

I think it’s the 2d world and art style, i like building big houses in my survival games.

Minecraft, ARK, valheim, etc.

Can’t wait for ARK 2 honestly.

I feel the same way, I always thought Don’t Starve was the poor man’s crafting game. The graphics and story just seem really cheap compared to other games in the genre.

I want to love ARK. I genuinely want to. But that game plays really rough, so I’m hoping the next one is better optimized. It has everything I want in a survival game; base building, pet taming, mounts. The first one just runs on the rough side.

Ever played Conan Exiles? That, with Vikings. Simpler even.

Just a question. Can I play it solo in my own world or it is similar to wow ??
