Anyone still playing retail?

Since Classic came out, I’ve been playing Classic and ignoring BFA. At times I wonder if everyone else did too, or if lots of players are still playing BFA. Today’s wowhead gave me one number.

About the Korrak’s Revenge pvp event (only in BFA), Blizzard says:

  • In the first six weeks of the event, players amassed 46 Million honorable kills in Korrak’s Revenge.

That doesn’t tell me how many players, but each kill involved a player from both factions. And it’s more than 1 million pvp kills per day. So somebody must still be playing BFA.

I quite often wonder the same thing. I thought I would absolutely hate Classic, and there was no way I’d play it over BFA. I humored myself and started a character on Classic about a week after release. I haven’t logged into BFA since, nor kept up with anything to do with it.
Funny how things turn out.

I find that a lot of retail / former retail players think that we are like them.

The truth is, most classic players quit in or around cata or mop, and have not played retail since then / never will again.

A good chunk of us did not come here from retail. We came back from oblivion to play a real version of wow.

So to answer your question… no, I am not playing retail, have not for a decade, and never will again.

Retail feels pretty popular again. Was dead AF when Classic came out. Now people are everywhere again, tons of groups, yadda yadda. Still a lot of dead realms though…not changing anytime soon.

Just keep in mind 1 person can be 40 HK’s. So the value could at the most be inflated by a sum of x40.

So at the minimum you could estimate 1,150,000 players grinding battlegrounds. Also that’s if they’re only calculating AV HK’s.

Also, no, haven’t touched Retail.

I found Classic kinda dull, been playing retail.

A lot of people play retail still. The population for certain guilds went down for a short time with Classic’s release but most are back up and running at full strength. Classic drew a lot of people at the start who wanted to see what it would be but has since capped out and is now in decline. Classic was treated very much like content updates with retail, very big initial flow and then people quit. Retail still has tons more players than Classic and always will have more than any historic version of WoW’s history that they release.

I doubt this greatly.

definitely more on retail right now. just go on each during prime time and check out how much is going on. cities are pretty full with wm on and off, tons of dungeon and raid groups for current and legacy. can find groups for anything at 5am

I’ll take the socially awkward Retail WoW over slow, mundane WoW Classic. Thanks though.

The number of people playing both games is likely very similar. You can get an idea from the number of raid logs being uploaded as well as addon version downloads.

I haven’t played BfA for more than a few hours since Classic launched and I probably won’t play much more even after patch launch.

I haven’t touched retail other than to log in to get the free pet on the anniversary. I have a few friends that have gone back to retail, but most just flat out quit once they left classic.

I still pop over every few days to do things. When Korrak’s first launched I was in it all the time. Then they changed things and it became yet another zerg so I stopped. I play on RP realms and my BfA realm is still very active in that regard; especially since Bloodsail Buccaneers has essentially become just another PvE realm.

With respect, these are… pretty damned inaccurate and you shouldn’t need me to tell you why.

I logged on couple of times to sell stuff on AH , now thats done i actually unistalled retail from pc so i can have some disk space.

Yeah, you should explain to me why addon downloads is an inaccurate way of determining which game has more active players.

I’ll wait.

Because the majority of players do not raid and the majority of players do not use add-ons.

You’ve lost touch a little bit, if you don’t get that :stuck_out_tongue:

Why would that matter? If roughly the same percentage of players use addons between both game versions, then it’s a completely fine measure for determining which game has the larger active playerbase.

Ehh… no… it’s not, man.

You’re talking about tracking max level raiders who also use add-ons and saying that is representative of the playerbase for both versions of the game.

That’s… silly.
