Anyone remember “Rift” mmo?

Anyone remember Rift? That game was fire :fire:

It was good until they made every class range or fail.

Then it died very fast.

It’s still around, hanging on by threads and one or two whales.

I love that game. I still play it from time to time, but it’s sad how empty it is. If they hadn’t gotten distracted by other projects and just focused on the end game, it wouldn’t have died.

Wasn’t that one of the many that was going to kill wow? There were so many I lost count. I remember an age of Conan and lotr online game too lol

Oh yeah, Rift. That game is going to kill WoW any day now!

I wouldn’t say it would have killed WoW, but had they not abandoned it so quickly, it definitely would still be popular and possibly have given WoW a run for its money.

Every mmo was a “wow killer”. But the problem with that was people were invested in wow. I never felt like starting over in a new game. I gave FF and GW2 a fair shot but I’m still locked into wow

Rift was fun few like 2 weeks.
I really did enjoy the Rift mechanic it made the open world feel alive which IMO is WoW’s biggest issue.

I think they had the best class system. You could choose from 3 trees and pick freely between them. I f you liked having pets you could be a mage with a pet, a warrior with a pet, you could be any class you designed with a pet. It was great.

It was actually an alright game. Had quite a bit of fun leveling. Rift’s downfall was really Trion’s mismanagement and eventual bankruptcy. Now it’s under gamigo and well… that’s all that needs to be said.

I’ve still got Rift installed on my computer and I even play it on occasion. That’s probably one of the best WoW clones I have ever played. Too bad it didn’t do better.

Rift was, for some, a better version of WoW. But once you leveled and got to the lack of end game… it all just fizzled out. And that’s what killed it. Trion was too busy trying to make other games and the playerbase just got miffed and left.

rift was great and took me away from wow for many years until it went p2w.i loved the invasions of zones and everyone had to work with each other to clear the zone or they take it over.

Played with a friend as mages we finished most of the game, was fun.

a dumpster fire

Exactly what you said. It’s reason I put no stock in the “wow killer” claims and think it’s an absurd thing. If someone has literally thousands upon thousands of hours invested in an mmo and felt they worked hard for certain rewards bound to their account not to mention all the money invested in buying expansions and subscription terms over 18 years…well it might not be so easy to walk away totally for a new mmo.

That does not necessarily mean the new mmo isn’t better, it just means your investment in the current one is hard to ignore.

I remember it. I loved the class design and the different combinations that you could make.

So much potential with that game.

Rift was cool and all, but really peak was…

It was one of the 1st WoW Killers! Me and my Lady actually tried to play it a little. All we managed to do was to get her ticked off at several women hitting on me all the time when we joined a guild. She actually said in Vent “Back off you heffers! He’s MINE!” and then she told me F it we are going back to WoW.
