Shaman who are mostly caster has a melee spec (Enhancement) so if the new spec for Evoker i keep hearing about is melee it would really complement those two handed weapon they can equip.
It won’t be, dev interviews have expressly said that they want to keep Evokers as a mid-range caster, even if they add more specs. That disqualifies tanks too, for those still holding out hope for that for some reason.
If there’s a third spec, it’ll be a healer or a dps caster, or potentially this mystery support role that WoW has never done.
But it’s not going to be a melee.
We don’t need more melee in the game. We need more ranged specs
There are several reasons why we hold out hope.
- We have hope that this is just another in a line of things Blizz has decided to backtrack on.
- Plenty of people want to be able to play their favorite role on the new race, which because of the ridiculous class locking we can’t.
- Some people want it just out of spite for all the vitriol hurled at anyone a year ago who remotely wanted Dracthyr to be other classes, or the evoker to have a melee or tank spec.
- People want to have hope for things they would love to see happen. Ex. Race threads, new class threads, more customization threads, etc.
No. Need more ranged. I’d prefer it be melee over a utility though. I’d prefer anything over a 4th role. What a nightmare that would be.
Well, you don’t need melee or tank evokers for that, you just need to wait until they unlock more drakthyr classes, which is probably an 11.0 feature.
Also, where’s all the whining from that crowd that cloth transmog is only available to ranged and healers?
Nah, my guess is a theoretical third spec will be something akin to Disc Priest.
That’s all most people ever wanted, but since that still has no real road map laid out people will go back to hoping that the possible spec will fill that gap.
The whole evoker tank situation could have been avoided by not doing the weird class race thing. Which honestly still leaves some concerns on when/if they unbind them.
Honestly I don’t even care about more Evoker specs.
I just want to be able to play a Dracthyr Warrior or something.
Dead on arrival or busted to all hell till mid expansion if it’s a genuine support spec. But whatever people have been screaming for years for bard when that “support ship” sailed by wrath.
My biggest hope is they (Blizzard) will never add another melee or tank spec to the game until at least the current melee and tank pool glut is reduced by at least 75% and no that is not exaggerated number.
Caster DPS take such a higher amount of skill and dedication to play as well as any unga bunga melee spec. Their damage profiles all lend themselves to being inherently inferior to melee because they have cast and ramp up times and as the years have wore on, the game has leaned heavily on forcing players to be far more active and mobile. Before evokers, literally every new class has been tank and melee with only 1 spec being a healer…and said healer spec is nigh universally considered the worst of the healing options.
Personally, I can’t think of a single person who has been a melee/tank main go caster DPS. Sure plenty of people have alts and I’ve certainly seen and known people who went from a caster to a melee or tank main with their reasoning being they are tired of playing a game designed for melee while not being melee.
Tanks are a massive glut too once you go beyond queue content and babymode keys. Tanks are so powerful and prolific today many opt to play them in solo/world content over their DPS specs. The rotational ease, massive sustain and innate damage reduction, and overall light mechanic requirements and forgiveness for mistakes that kill healers and DPS make it a super attractive role. Why struggle to be a mage and kiting mobs when you can just unga bunga them?
I think evokers have the potential to be the foundation caster playstyle all casters need to be modeled after. Evokers have a lot of uptime on their cast while moving button and their upcharge and breath mechanics add a skill element to casting beyond just pushing the button. To be fair, I think melee need to have positionals on their buttons and requirements to dance around more to be more effective…kind of like the fel rush spec DHs can have.
As an aside, I also don’t want Dracs to be anything else until at least 1 more expansion in the future. The entire race is literally a glorified genetic experiment and they were put in statis for like 20k years with no knowledge or interaction with the outside world. It should take canon time for the race to be mingled in with the other races and a new game feature akin to class swapping where any person can “learn” to be another class for this to make sense. At best, I can see Dracs gaining mage and priest only.
By positional, you mean like attacking from behind or sides to do more damage right? I remember FFXIV having that for melee dps class.
No.
I hope for a buffer/debuffer or a pet spec. I also want to turn into an actual big dragon.
I’m also tired of taking fire damage from other dragons when I know dang well that dragonfire heals me.
What about Hunters? Do they have the same mobility problem?
I dunno about Marks but I think BM is the single most mobile spec in the game. Literally everything they can do is instant cast.
Tank evoker is a justified request as it’s a missing fantasy that should be available on the class. If blizzard wasn’t restrained by time, evoker should have realistically had all 4 play styles like druids do.
I believe steady shot can be done on the move, not sure about aimed shot though.
How is that? Evokers are a brand new thing. There was no existing fantasy to miss out on.
Unless you’re conflating them with the random “Dragon Knight” things that people have made up over the years. Those are not Evokers.
If we where to use that logic then Shaman are missing a tanking spec. Enhancement (Wind), Elemental (Lightning, Fire), Restoration (Water) all that is left is a (Earth) based tanking spec for Shaman plus the class can use a shield.
Yes I was envisioning FFXIV and how they do melee DPS. I still think casters there are harder to play, but at least melee has to use more than a single brain cell to play optimally.
