I was in a dungeon with a tank that I thought was new because he kept going a weird path and pulling extra. I don’t use the new ping system because its too much mouse movement for the carbon tunnel in my wrists, so I typed to him. “Hey tank over here”. Dude pauses for 5 seconds and completely explodes in chat saying “I HAVE A NAME ITS ********”.
Im going ok this guys crazy but didnt wanna get kicked so just said “sorry mb *****”.
Im used to saying things like this IRL like “Hey how are YOU?” even if I know their name is Todd instead of saying “hey Todd how are you?” so I dont think much of doing it in game too.
Anyways, we finish the dungeon but was I being toxic here or did he over-react? I can see their name in game so I dont have to guess it but I thought I was being casual/friendly. Agree?
It’s been the norm in WoW since forever to just refer to someone by their class or even their role. They might just be new and thought you were being rude. No biggie. Miscommunications happen.
I’ve seen it happen a few times. I am like “well excuse you” but I never say anything in chat.
It’s w/e usually but some folks like to be referred by their char name or a shortened version of it. I wouldn’t take it personally. In fact, you apologized and used their name it sounds like the rest of the run went well.
While its not the norm ive definitely seen it a time or two where someone loses it over being called class/color.
But for efficiency reasons, its a lot easier for me to go “Druid can you innervate on phase 2” instead of trying to look at their name and get the proper spelling for "Axeonhufflepuffpewpewer
Don’t over think it imo. Bad runs can happen, people ditching when they’re wrong can happen too. It’s part of the bundle, sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad.
You should have been like “A thousand pardons Name, but I regretfully must inform you that you may be going the wrong direction in our adventure. I have done this encounter before, and not to try to lord myself over you, I know the correct direction to our success in in this direction”
