Anyone for playin FFXIV?

Not only hanging on but getting faster content releases than WoW. Not saying it is good. I’ve been playing DOTA.

Ffxiv has fantastic story telling, second to none in the genre

The gameplay though, idk - feels meh

I played through most of it, I wanted to like it but couldn’t.

Also the PvP is actual garbage

It’s not for everyone (like most things) but I think it’s great. The only reason I’m still in WoW is because I run a guild and I told them I’d do one more expac and finish out the trilogy. After Wrath is over, I’ll be full gas into FF14.

It also has literal NPCs you play with in the dungeon finder instead of real people. Kind of defeats the whole purpose of an MMO.

I played it. This was actually a mess at the time. We worked very hard to stay logged in once we got in. Our queue times were more like 1-2 hours on Cactuar though - and we played at launch. And best of all the development team was actually quite informative of what was going on and what they were doing about it. Of course they were apologizing profusely but at least they were communicating.

I’ve tried FFXIV maybe half a dozen times over the years, eventually reaching max level during Shadowbringers and putting my best effort toward the endgame.

The highlight of FFXIV for me was that the community was very welcoming and friendly, if a bit white knightish toward their game, and the overall atmosphere was very laid back and chill. The downside was that no amount of trying could get me excited for the endgame. I did one tier of raiding (Eden’s Gate) and while the difficulty was fine, it was just… forgettable.

I wasn’t excited to log in and progress it at any point. Now my static, we had a great time together, but the content itself was really underwhelming and kind of hollow to me.

So no, I’m not playing FFXIV and I really don’t think I ever will again. It’s an objectively great game but I don’t think I’m the target demographic.

I actually prefer GW2 to FF14. I played a bunch of it during SHadowlands/TBC as neither of those expacs were really doing it for me.

GW2 world feels very alive, the combat feels more active that WoW/FF14. The story is waaaaay easier to get into than FF14 (all main story is voice acted right from the start ) and lastly, you can PvP with max level gear right from the beginning.

Highly recommend people give it a try.

Ffxiv was one of the single greatest games I’ve ever played.

That being said, it’s also wasn’t really an MMO like wow, so much as a single player rpg in a world filled with other players that you occasionally group or interact with. I mean there’s more there if you want to get into higher end raiding, or housing, or xmog, or even pvp (which was atrocious by MMO standards, and has been recently revamped), but largely what held my interest most was simply playing the story (msq or “main story quest”). It was a very large amount of game play getting to the current story and would occupy most people for months, but the base game and first expansion can both be played in their entirety for free as part of their trial… There’s other little things that will grab your attention, like their raid mechanics are largely well defined, their rotations get SUPER intense on some classes (like ninja has something like a 53 button OPENER because of their resource system works, where a number of their abilities are casted based off 3 rune combinations and a fourth activation button to cast the combo), (other classes like red mage are very straight forward if complexity isn’t your thing)… One of the coolest things you’ll encounter is the bard class (bow hunter basically) can also learn how to play a musical instrument, and you can collect different instruments in game specifically so that you can play music in cities of you want. There are even in game bands that will tour around and play entire concerts in major cities like Limsa, and it’s just a massively cool thing to come across in game.

That all said, outside of the exceptional story telling I also couldn’t really bring myself to keep playing once I cleared the story, hence my thoughts that it kind of plays like a single player rpg that you see others in. It’s not something that is likely to ever replace wow for me, but it has more than earned my Fandom and is an immediate pre-purchase for whatever their next expansion brings, which is more than I can say for wow outside of classic.

I never played with a single NPC in a dungeon. But i have heard that

I play it as well. It’s a very good game but much different than wow is. Its more story focused and single-player. Its more of an rpgmmo than mmorpg.

Played it since ARR beta, it gets worse as expansions go.
Now I know how WoW vets feel lol.

I’d play a FFXIV Classic.

Its like Wow, you only have to buy the latest expansion.

There are three tiers.

Free Trial which includes ARR and Heavensward (about 60+ hours of gameplay doing MSQ and some dungeon sidequests, and then the free trial continue forever until you want to progress past level 60)

Base game which includes all the way up to Shadowbringers, but you really shouldnt buy this over the free trial, since if you get to the end of heavensward and aren’t sold, then don’t buy the game and pay a monthly sub straight out

Endwalker which includes everything.

FF14 had queue problems in the beginning where being in queue kept pinging the server to often and disconnecting you because the login server was full, but those are gone now and have been since like february.

I dont have server queues, but there is a login queue everyday that lasts like a minute.

We had 1-2 hours as well on zalera, but for the first week or so you’d get kicked out every 10-20 min :frowning:

No, because my alternative to WoW is ESO - a far better game and better fantasy world than final fantasy.

I played for a year, it’s the most boring game I ever played in my life, you have to do blue quest just to unlock the most basic shih too, it’s ridiculous. It made me want to blow my brains out.

Tried it for a few hours, not a fan.
