I think what is missing is, BM used to be fantastic early season, especially solo content. Mid last x-pac, blizz adjusted pets to scale based off the hunters gear, especially the weapon.
So I think a lot of people are not feeling hunter right now because even if you misdirect and have taunt on, you are regularly pulling mobs off your pet, as it feels like the pet does almost no damage, or no where near the ratio of damage to threat to holding power it had.
You can still play around with that, use defensive CDs, FD, ect. But the pets also seem to be getting killed rather easy right now. Even with mend pet rolling, some of these mobs, if the defensive are on CD, the pet IS going to die, and then its turtle and revive mid fight.
From a damage perspective, I’m sure we can make it work. But from a game-play, “this is what this class is good at” perspective, its taken a much larger hit then I feel blizzard intended too. Or they blinded themself to that area as they balanced for damage in better gear.
Also, we got two waves of nerfs last season. They buffed everyone with their stats shift, and Hunter got hit with damage nerfs to base abilities. Another few days go by, and now they are looking at the damage on m+ TWW numbers, so they put the nerf in with the next round.
Blizz is sometimes really slow to realize that say, last season they nerfed hunters to address a temporary problem caused by 70 scaling and tier, so that they didn’t “ruin” the rest of the season, but they forget to come back once that seasons over and that tier is gone
