Anyone else?

Logged on yesterday. Haven’t raided since, hmmmm, MoP…I tend to focus on rep, collections etc. It always kept me content… Stared at the screen for 5 minutes and logged out.

I can’t say why I have no interest anymore. I guess it is a number of changes to the core mecahnics of the game… but…I am so ready for classic. The journey is my favorite. We haven’t had a good journey since mid Wrath perhaps…when things started changing.

I want to love the current game, but I am losing that fight. Maybe azshara patch will be better

No I haven’t logged on in months to this complete garbage expansion.

Hopefully one day retail returns to its former glory but that’s likely never to happen. For now the only game I even look forward to playing is Classic.

People play a game to feel good. Earlier WoW had a balance of reward versus effort that just appealed to a lot of people.

Current devs think that the feeling is from getting loot. If they give you more loot you will be happier.

Instead, they only depreciated the value of loot which makes earning it somewhat meaningless… i.e. Why am I playing?

While there is much more loot. It no longer feels good to get it. In fact, due to the RNG nature, more often than not getting loot is a let down… completely contrary to how rewards vs effort should work.

There are very few things in game that make you feel good anymore… and when it reaches a certain threshold… (which is different for each individual) the player will stop playing.

This ^^

On the character I’m posting on I had a decent time running around the Troll zones and grinding all my reputations to exalted… a year ago? There’s no motivation to do anything else. I have no peers, no need to raid, no obsession with gear or pet collections, no meaningful skill or profession advancement to pursue… it just feels empty, and there isn’t enough variation or uniqueness to make the journey feel worthwhile to do twice. BfA is ded

I’ve been playing retail. My priest is fairly geard, got several Mythic bosses down. Got AoTC on the new raid.

My sub ran out yesterday and I don’t plan on resubbing until Classic.

I’ve tried several times to get back into the expansion for the people I play with but each time I have to log on for raid I end up dreading it to the point where I’m glad when I have to work late. And when I log in on my own I end up just afking while doing something else till I get auto logged out. Even WoD I managed to find ways to enjoy myself but it’s gotten to the point where there’s no reason to play for a lot of reasons I could get into to the point where I can honestly say its objectively not a good game from a gameplay, design or narrative point.

Classic couldn’t come sooner.

I logged in the other day and played to level 20 without a sub and havent logged back in. I really want to play, but not the game that exists today. Its something that I don’t like about modern games, which is definitely worse in mmos. If I want to play Donkey Kong Country, I just have to put the cartridge in and play and its the exact game I played when I was a kid, but with a lot of modern games the original game just doesn’t exist anymore.

After not playing at all for right at 2 years, I logged in and leveled a couple of characters to 20. I did this mostly to get a feel for playing something again before Classic came out.

I then decided that I wanted to level this character to max, which I did over the course of about a month after purchasing BFA while it was on sale. I haven’t logged back in since. If I decide to I still have several game time tokens sitting around that I purchased several years back.

The Azshara patch isn’t going to change much since it’s just new content really; the only significant class changes that are coming are to Guardian and Vengeance really (maybe DK’s also), and even those won’t make much of a difference for those classes in the overall meta.

Personally I think they recognize they screwed classes up so bad in BfA by eliminating Legion artifacts (which was really the first character progression system [to my knowledge] that has been in the game since they eliminated the old talent tress after WotLK), but they don’t want to mess with things any further while Holinka is doing his thing as lead combat designer (e.g. they might implement something players like, but then have to remove it again in the next expansion because it doesn’t fit with the new design for the class). So they are just trying to limp things along as best they can until the next expansion.

It’s like they forgot that WoW is an MMORPG, a genre which basically demands a character progression system, and are trying to turn it into something else, like an Overwatch clone or something. It’s just garbage. I play WoW because I like the MMORPG genre and the feeling of progressing a character and feeling stronger and more powerful as a result. That feeling just isn’t there in retail anymore.

For better or worse Vanilla rewarded time investment. The more you played a character and progressed it the more you got rewarded in the form of epics or just overall skill and familiarity with the class. But none of that is rewarded in retail. I don’t even know what is rewarded in retail. The closest thing I can come up with is that the ability to play multiple classes competently is rewarded, but I enjoy playing and mastering one class that has a lot of depth and nuance to it, not playing and mastering a class which has as much depth as a puddle on the sidewalk.

I prefer to play a class and game that has a lot of depth and nuance to it. I prefer to play something that takes time to master and rewards that time investment. Retail just doesn’t do that right now.

I wasn’t planning to drop retail for Classic, but the way things are progressing right now in retail I might very well do so. Especially because Fire is complete garbage in PvE/raiding right now and the devs are completely silent on the issue and there are no changes on the PTR for any Mage spec right now that I am aware of. It’s just too depressing to play retail right now.

Got my main to 120 and cancelled. The entire BfA experience was a complete let down. I have zero desire to grind useless quests and EIGHT faction reps to revered just for Pathfinder. World quest dailies are a horrific snooze fest. And everything we do is going to be reset and obsolete when the next xpac comes out so really why bother?

Honestly if you haven’t played since MoP, you have 3 expansions of journey you never experienced. Staring at the screen and not playing isn’t Retails effect.

as soon as epics started dropping in warfronts it was over for me. I spent weeks grinding gear to be viable and the whole time I could have been chilling at home doing other things then afk in warfronts for a day and had the same ilvl.

This sounds pretty typical and is not exclusive to WoW.

If you’ve quit the game in the past out of boredom or just ‘being over it’ then that’s pretty much the game you’re returning to. And if you pick up an MMO that very closely mimics WoW in its game structure/activity then you’re likely to be bored of that game before ever playing it as well.

This sums it up so much. Epic gear practically rains from the heavens at this point, and there is no real feeling of progression anymore from the moment you roll your character until you’re doing raids.

The only time in BfA where I actually felt any sense of accomplishment was when trying to do harder mythic + dungeons. Now that the people I always ran them with are no longer subbed, I think I’m going to let mine lapse too until 8.2 or Classic (whichever arrives first).

I have played for a while off and over. I hit a max toon and just stop playing after that. Classic is differnt. I plan on seeking just as much if not more in classic then I have every put in to osrs… I have over 4k hours on just one account lol. I am going for my new obsessions.

I unsubbed quite a few months ago if that tells you anything. The gating of everything, especially the new races, did it for me. The horrid scaling, boring leveling, dull combat mechanics… I’ve had enough. And blizz can so shove their world quests. They aren’t an acceptable alternative to actual content.

Um…Ive played every expansion. Not raiding does not equate to not playing.

Naw, I’m not a masochist.

The time gates really bug me, too. I never had an issue with a grind, but the grind feels different now. Maybe its just me.
