Anyone else worried that they cant make new race models?

Well, some would argue already they don’t have a starting zone :dracthyr_shrug:

Even with Kotex leaving, that don’t mean things will improve either.

Things could even somehow get worse. :grimacing:

I’m worried. Their last race was Jar Jar Binks with wings, one class, and no mogging. And their answer to that is… dwarves.

I just want playable ethereals

no, kul tirans use the pandaren skeleton with diferent animations, just like the drenai use the tauren skeleton

This is why factions are bad. If we didnt have factions, any race could be playable without needing a convoluted rationale for them being playable.

I will go a different route here. I am not really concerned about this. I don’t feel that new races add to overall gameplay. They don’t even really improve replayability. Even the racial abilities tend to be watered down.

This includes the Dracthyr. Without the Evoker class they didn’t really bring anything new outside cosmetics. They just have the benefit of being the only race that can be the new class.

Gem dwarves, mountain dwarf, and fire dwarf are all the same thing really. Just like the four “races” of elves… just slightly different cosmetics.

Well they can fly, so thats pretty unique.

Right but those are rehashed races. Where are the Aarakoa, the ogres, the Jinyu, the Hozen?

And what new gameplay would these races bring to the game? I am not saying that they wouldn’t be nice cosmetics. Might even race change to some of them if they have the right classes. I am saying they won’t bring new gameplay. Allied Races don’t even get starting zones.

Oh, and I could fly without a mount long before Dracthyr were added.

I guess i have to ask this then: would gameplay be diminished if the only playable race were humans? Because if it would then we’re really talking about a number. How many races would be ideal gameplay.

As for gameplay, i think youre disciunting things like RP, race baded questing, storyline, and any sort of narrative that would drive the plot forward like political dynamics.

More races would help for all that.

No it was not. The Incubus/Dracthyr rig is not the Worgen rig.

Same with Pandaren.

Literally every person that pulled apart both models and stripped them down to their rigs, along with the Wowhead model viewer. The Incubus/Dracthyr rig is NOT the Worgen rig.

This is the same issue we ran into when people claimed that Zandalari were the Nelf rig.

Mists of pandaria weeping in the corner

Oh no. Pandaren and Dracthyr don’t count, because we aren’t separate races on each side. :dracthyr_shrug:

Doesn’t matter what new race as long as the “creature” type race goes to the horde as the humanoid/human type races goes to the alliance. I don’t care for these pandas and dragons in stormwind… Blizzard has crossed the line so many times with this… I view these “other” races that enter into stormwind as being traitors to their factions. I don’t have a problem with the worgens because they are human inside and I actually I think the undead should have bene located within the alliance instead of the horde as they are partly human.

So I’ve always felt that the Death Knight should be allowed to have their own faction instead of being forced to join the Alliance or Horde. So instead of creating a new race, create new factions instead. Why not fight and quest for the Bloodsail Buccaneers etc.

Game development, like every other form of work, is dependent on having people with that skillset at your company for sufficiently long periods of time. Cata was released 13 years ago, and of course that’s six years after the game started. Think of that in terms of a dev’s career, it’s a really long time. I know I wouldn’t be any good at something I haven’t done for thirteen years, I don’t care how clutch I was at it back then. Frankly it’s pretty extraordinary for anyone to even stay at a job that long these days, especially in any technology-related field, and particularly given the absolute chaos Blizzard has been for these past many years. It’s possible if not entirely likely that the people who originally created the character models are no longer there.

Considering the infrequency of how often new race models were being released even by Cata, even if a replacement was trained or recruited, it’s unlikely the skills were really maintained to the competency the company would need. It’s much easier from a production standpoint to simply reskin the models they already have, anyway. I mean, the vulpera may just be furry goblins, but their reception was crazy successful nonetheless. Why reinvent something when you’ve already got working models? The reskins are providing plenty of variety, hell we’ve got players arguing endlessly on the forums about Blood Elf hair and eye colors, it’s not like the players aren’t already entertained.

How about I rephrase things for you since you’ve made a big scene about how I’m ridiculous several times in this thread:

TBC and Cata had a new-race roll out package that I think was great. That roll out has not occurred since Cataclysm. I’d like to see it return but I’m worried that they can’t pull it off again.

Please let me know if I can do anything else to get your blood pressure down.

Erm… no? I’ve mentioned I don’t agree with your point and I think your point is nonsensical. You, personally, I have no issues with!

And to me, Pandaren and Dracthyr aren’t any different.

Ok well I think we’ve found the issue. MoP and DF had different styles of launches than TBC and Cata to me. If we can’t agree on that, we won’t agree at all.

It’s not that they can’t, it’s more that they seem to be fine with taking the lazy route after BfA and allied races showed people were willing to accept those if it meant more were given, ie quantity over quality. Add to that Pandaren and Dracthyr weren’t the best received, they seem to be taking the route of less time lower quality since players haven’t liked the last 2 races.

I don’t want to say never, but I don’t think you’re wrong in how you feel.

I do think the Kul’Tiran rig will eventually be used for a Horde race. What that race would be only Blizzard would know.

A BC/CATA like expansion roll out with 2 new races + their respective starting zones would be cool. Worgen, Goblin, and Pandaren starting zones are really underrated or widely appraised, I don’t know how people feel about them. I like them all!
