The title of the video was Rewards in Video Games and it was a talk by the lead developer for Diablo III. He was a developer from Vanilla through wrath, and I thought his perspectives on player rewards were really interesting.
He understands why Blizzard felt tokens were a mistake, and ultimately removed them. He also seems to have a very low opinion of current development as one of his rules was make it clear to the player, and 56 critical strike rating is meaningless, whereas 1% crit is easy to understand.
The other big divergence from modern wow was his belief that game developers should be generous to players. Not in loot, per se, but in power, and abilities, and class feel. He straight up said that game balance is less important than fun, and that every time he’s seen it shift in the other direction players are unhappy.
Anyway, anyone else watch the video? Do you agree? Disagree? Definitely worth the watch.
