Anyone else use ESDF instead of WASD?

I find that it offers me additional keybinds which I enjoy greatly.

Very odd because I don’t play ANY other game where WASD is how your control your character with ESDF, just WoW. Only WoW.

For those wondering - this opens up Q, A, Z, and lets you more comfortably reach 6, 7, even T, G, V, H, Y for keybinds if you really want. It’s delightful.

I used to…but moved to mouse movement. I still used a/d for strafing. I also like freeing up RFTG for main keybinds

I did once, but only because one of my keys was playing up so i had to move everything over one key for a couple of weeks until i could get to a store lol

I do find it bizarre how so many people just use WASD when it just doesn’t make any sense. It’s like putting your hands at 11 and 1 while driving. Like, sure, you CAN do it, but that’s not really where your hands are designed to go.

Though, I don’t have massive hands, so reaching 6, 7, Y, H, and N aren’t particularly comfortable. However, with SHIFT+ keybinds, I have…just about enough.

Would be nice if there was substantially less button bloat in the game, though… :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

I use ESDF. WASD is super uncomfortable for me. Any game that doesn’t let me bind ESDF- LOOKING AT YOU, New World- I don’t play it.

I’ve used ASDF for decades, it just feels the most natural. (D=forward, A=backward, S=move left, F=move right.) All skills/spells are bound around these keys (QWERTY, G, X, C, V)

No, don’t ask me to explain why my brain likes this setup. Brains are weird. It’s 100% muscle memory at this point, and my fingers just fly across the keyboard, especially in PvP.

I use ‘WASD’, but mostly just W and strafe keys E and Q.

Backpedding is looked down upon, so S is generally never used at all. Unless I’m trying to trigger someone lol.

As are A and D for keyboard-turning, just not really used at all.

I grew up using the number pad before arrow keys were even put on keyboards. Once they started putting the 4 arrow keys on keyboards; WASD was still not used in games yet. So, I never felt comfortable using WASD once it was a part of games for moving if I could just as easily play from the arrow keys.

This also means I never learned to play with key binds associated with WASD. My setup uses a 2-button mouse and a standard keyboard. Means I play as a clicker when it comes to using abilities.

slick shift. makes a lot of sense.

I’d adopt this if I used a keyboard for sure.

esdf crew represent

i actually use the chatbox to communicate things other than my dislike of my teammates, and having my left hand in standard typing position by default makes that much smoother

i also can’t stand shift modifiers, so opening up 6yhn as easily-accessible buttons helps me avoid using those

you’d be surprised just how many of your buttons don’t actually need to have a key press associated with them in order for you to play effectively

I use QWE.
ASD are all part of my ability keybinds.

No, and I don’t wear my pants backwards either.

Nope, I’m strictly WASD here. Although it’s mostly QWE, I’m also definitely a keyboard turner and even an occasional backpedaler. :scream:

Gotta give a shoutout to my MMO mouse though. Binding my abilities was a nightmare before I got one of those.

I use WASD, but I free up E and Q by making A and D strafe instead of turn, and always turn with the mouse. With access to Q, shift Q, E, and shift E, plus the standard battle mapping of Z, X, and C and their shift iterations as well, there’s no need to move for more hotkeys. If course, i play piano too, so reaching up to shift or control 6 is perfectly comfortable.

I also save keybinding space with help/harm macros. For example, on my priest, pressing 1 will apply purging fire to a targetted enemy, or renew to a moused over or targetted ally. If you really wanna free up hotkey real estate, help/harm macros are game changers.

You are telling me, you use esdf?
Bro…am i gonna be impressed, or disappointed in teh number of bodies in your basement? because i assume only a psychopath uses ESDF

I use W, A, D, and mouse.

Why are people acting like pressing “S” is the devil?

It’s really only relevant in PvP. There’s no situation in PvE where pressing S is a problem. And it’s necessary for tanking because a tank might need to back up and doesn’t want to be hit in the back.

Because its squigally, its SSSSS like SSSSnake, snake is the devil. Ergo, S is the devil HISSSSSSSSSSS

i use QWE, strafing n moving forward is all i need, the rest of my movement/direction changes is mouse-based

I use…

I - O - P - [left bracket]
K

…as it conforms very nicely to my hand’s relaxed state.
