Anyone else not use proffs?

They seem… useless to me in their current iteration.

Bring back BoE proffessions and perks like the old days. Atm you craft a silly BoP item that you can upgrade, its just dumb. An entire proffession used to craft a BoP raid lvl item that you can just get as a drop anyway.

My characters dont even have proffs anymore. Feels bad man

I got some benefit out of leatherworking early on in the expansion, but at this point I’m not using it. I skin when I can while doing dailies & sell when I have a full stack of something, but that’s about it.

They need to completely overhaul the entire profession system at this point. The only reason I have the crafting professions is for transmog, and I have recipes from vanilla that you cant get anymore. The end game crafting gear takes so much material that you can get better stuff just running randoms much quicker.

I dropped my JC since gem slots are so scarce Picked up Mining just because it’s fun to pick up random ores. Enchanting remains nice to have. Easy to sustain and very useful when you need it. Always fun to disenchant unneeded items.

Professions, at least in my opinion, are for making gold in the game. The professions vary is profitability, but they can all make gold.

Combat perks on professions was a broken system that felt “mandatory” for less than a 1% increase in dps. How would you feel if you had to complete 100 WQs each week for a temporary 1% increase in dps? Or win 20 PvP pet battles? Complete 10 mythic island expeditions?

WoW offers a lot of optional game play. The way it is currently, if you don’t like something, you don’t have to do it.

The only ones I am using on any of toons currently are cooking, alchemy and herbalism the rest are just not worth the limited time to mess with besides they are not worth it even if I had the time.

Then they should have just removed the combat perks and left the BOE system in place and turned all the BOP items into BOE. If that were the case would you agree that crafting professions would be more useful, more profitable, more FUN and more relevant to playing the game?

They did remove combat perks from the game. They were absent during both WoD and Legion. Professions were also more fun and profitable as we had upgrade mechanics to keep crafted gear relevant for most of the expansions, acting as “bad luck protection” for a few slots were a player might be unlucky with drops.

However for BfA, in addition to apparently cutting back developer time on professions (two druid glyphs for inscription? really blizz?), Blizzard decided to return to a Mists of Pandaria crafting cycle whereby the crafted gear was intended as base level gear to get you started, with new sets released with each patch.

Blizzard also chose to return to a BC BoP combat perk system in BfA to encourage more players to level tailoring, leatherworking, or blacksmithing. Which they doubled down on in 8.1 / S2 by adding a 385/400/415 gear to engineering and jewelcrafting. However with the costs associated with the crafted gear (running heroic raids every week for breaths) and the ease at getting gear nearly as good outside of crafting, I think the desirability of the BoP gear has decreased slightly from 8.0.

Agreed.

They need to bring back craftable wepons. Heck imagine the drop in wow token gold prices if 415 crafted weps were on AH lol

I use professions for gold-making. I have no interest in “playing the auction house” (flipping, or selling rare mounts, pets and other drops). To me that isn’t playing the game.

But I level alts, level their professions, craft things and sell them, or gather raw mats and sell them to crafters. All of that feels like playing the game to me.

I made 9 million in gold in Legion. I made 4 million gold so far in BFA.

So the professions are not “useless in their current iteration”, to me.

Maybe you should write a guide.

I got so excited about leveling blacksmithing so I could craft cool leveling gear for my warriors that I blew real cash on a token to buy the mats. That got so boring that I parked that toon and rolled another one who casually farms copper and AHs it for a few gold at a time. This toon’s a lot more fun but I foresee being in a nursing home by the time he hits 4 million gold. If there’s a faster way to do that with mining I’d love to know what it is. EDIT: Not saying I’m some punk who wants instant gratification, but I’d like to take, oh, max six months to hit the 1 million gold mark.

There are numerous blogs and YouTube channels dedicated to gold making that you can follow, a few of which normally give themselves some kind of zero to a million gold goal to hit on a new server.

Normally I would recommend leveling a character with herbalism and mining, selling anything you stumble across on the AH through an alt parked near the AH. Then just enjoy the game until you level cap.

By the time you approach the current expansions level range (110-120 for BfA), you should start to have some familiarity with your servers economy. The simplest way to make gold will be continuing with dual gathering professions and having fun playing the game. You might make enough to pay for game time with gold, not sure about hitting a million in 6 months though.

On the other hand, this would also be a good time to branch out into other professions, especially with the new tier system. After getting rank 3 in all the BfA gathering professions (so you can re-pickup the profession if you change your mind), consider leveling jewelcrafting for prospecting / gem cutting or inscription for making glyphs (most profitable glyphs are from Legion 100-110 content). Armorcrafting professions are also a possibility, but require a little more work.

As you learn, remember that the materials you gather are not free, they have a value based on what they could be sold for on the AH. So if you cannot buy everything off of the AH and craft the item at a profit, you should be selling the raw materials and buying the item from the next guy willing to take a loss. Also, the gold making content on the internet is what worked for those players, at a specific time, on their server. Use it for ideas that might work on your server, not as a direct guide, as conditions will have changed.

Professions are just a waste compared to original WOW versions.
Now you spend 8 times what it costs to sell what you made.
Mats for some items sell 3 times what it cost just to make part of a item.
Blizzard totally screwed the pooch on this expansion, starting with WOD.
Crafting used to be fun despite the grind, now you get nothing for the the grind.
BFA did not take me long to ignore 120 and go back to leveling instead.
At least crafting in Classic, TBC, Wrath and Pandaland was fun, WOD on SUCKS!

Except occasionally with my toons that have alchemy, all my professions are shelved - useless.
