Been playing MoP Remix, Qing for dungeons, and when I get a SM (any of them), I just love it. It feels great!
BUT, this may just be my nostalgia kicking in.
Just a random thought, amen.

I’m pretty sure it’s illegal not to love Scarlet Monestery in all its forms.
I’m more a fan of the pre-revamp ones.
Yea its cool but you dont really get to experience any dungeons in remix since people just one shot everything
I don’t mind so much in Remix. I just follow along looting corpses humming a jaunty tune.
The “new” servers when they released wotlk classic and everyone was making new toons (instead of the tbc existing ones they had) was the most fun I’ve had in SM since vanilla. Tons of groups, some pvp, great experience, good loot. I played a ret Pld, and tanked towards the end of the Ilvl for each. I had so much fun.
After I experienced out of cathedral it was a real slog until I got into Outland. Then I had fun again.
Oddly enough I hate leveling in wotlk .
Yea thats what i do just try to keep up and loot lol
Love SM dungeons and Scholo, originals and remastered. Wish they still made dungeons like that.
Let me tell you, the old Scarlet Monastery has some of my best memories. Not only do I love the Scarlet Crusade, but when we rounded that corner, and I was instantly being yelled at to tell all of secrets and getting jabbed with a hot iron poker, I was like wow this place means business and is so thematic. I loved it. I like the revamp too, but nothing will ever top the classic for me.
I remember my first guild run of SM back in vanilla and the long road to get there. I got to Arathi and didn’t know about the patrolling elite mobs on the road and got obliterated by them.
Graveyard always felt like the weakest of the OG bunch, I wasn’t thrilled about that one.
Armory, library, and cathedral were lots of fun though.
Part of the charm was the mob difficulty though. In today’s world it would be pull to boss and cleave it down lol. When they do roll out hard dungeons it’s just mechanical overload. They can’t seem to hit that sweet spot anymore it seems.
It happens to the best of us.
Stitches in Duskwood was also a surprise face smashing I took a couple times.
I feel the exact same way. Dungeons don’t feel as good as they used to. I mean, Shadowfang Keep? Oh my gosh. You needed to be so planned to handle mechanics and positioning in so many dungeons and going into the Cathedral in the Monastery, whew. I don’t even feel like people use sap or polymorph much anymore outside of PvP. We used to really need our skills. Nowadays people steamroll dungeons. Kind of sad but, what can you do, I guess.
In the OG form,
SM GY isn’t great.
The loot tables are very narrow.
The amount of bosses per wing is very limited and not keeping up with what we now consider to be the standard.
The travel time to get there as Alliance is god awful.
Honestly, there’s a lot of just… human guys.
I’d still rate OG SM highly, and it was the inspiration for the dungeon hub approach which was successful in BC, but while I enjoy it a lot I don’t know if I can say I truly love it, because while I can play Retail M+ dungeons again and again, SoD SM actually drove me to level via incursions on some of my toons simply because I was tired of the place.
All of that said, I love the concept of Scarlets as enemies and would love to see them get an end-game 10-man raid in SoD.
Not that Shadowfang Keep was much better for the Alliance. The Horde got the fuzzy end of the stick with the path you had to follow to get to Gnomeragan.
What’s not to love?
Scarlet Crusade is a very fascinating organization- Scourge hasn’t even existed for that long, since Warcraft 3, but between that and WoW, before the forging of the Horde, apparently the Scarlet Crusade was founded.
They’re crazy because they are led by a dreadlord, and that’s the reason why they kill anyone and assume any race could be an agent of the Scourge- it’s induced paranoia.
And, the characters. Who doesn’t love Herod, Whitemane, Vishas, Houndmaster, Librarian, and Mograine?
The undead guy they walled off in the hidden room in the back of Cathedral?
The Scarlet Crusade tabard and red-colored armor that people love to grind?
It’s quite easily some of the best world building WoW has ever had, everyone remembers it.
It’s not told to us, it’s simply shown.
